There is an S2 on carsales, quick while it's still there.

Indeed there is but $40k is way over budget, I'm sure there'll be plenty of silly offers going in, but with the last S2 advertised at $37k and selling in 2 days, I'm not terribly hopeful.

I like the look of that one a lot, but would never forgive myself for buying an auto - just couldn't do it. If it was a manual, I'd buy it unseen at that price.

Interesting times, that S2 seems overpriced for sure (but will probably sell), then this 968 "appears" to be too cheap. Who can pick the market.

It's a crazy time, if you are buying I wish you luck it must be bloody frustrating. I cursed as I got close to having enough money saved to upgrade a 911 only to see them jump up 30% in price in what seemed like a month.... I hope 944's don't go too crazy so average earning people (like me) can still actually afford to buy one and enjoy it.........

What am i missing, and im not having a dig at you Pom, you were prepared to buy a $50k 86 na 944 that is crazy money, but, not a S2 which is a little over priced but with some neg possibly get it cheaper?

Ok so they are overpriced but the S2 could be negotiated on i guess.

Not many around is pushing up the market I suppose, getting frustrating for some as well, I would be in the same boat had I not found the turbo as I was looking to upgrade.

Ha - no dig noted! I wasn't prepared to spend $50k on a 944 - I just wanted to see what a $50k 944 looked like! It is factory-fresh, and therefore of no use to me - I need something with a little wear and tear.

If I could spend $40k, then that S2 would be on my list, but then so too might other machinery - there might be other cars that start to float my $40k boat.

I spoke to this guy twice on the phone re his 968 & not to put to fine a point on it he was a true 'Knob Jockey'.  Kept telling me that he thought it was ridiculous that I was wanting to organise an independent PPI at a Porsche specialist other than his mechanic.  Got to the stage that it was too painful to continue the conversation & I made an excuse to get off the phone.....sigh.......

I was a bit taken aback when I asked about servicing history, receipts & such like & old mate got quite bitter & twisted that I was inquiring about what maintenance had been performed.  He said something like, "The car runs & the book is stamped, what more do you want?"  I said something like, "Oh no my baby just fell in the toilet, gotta go- call you right back- NOT".

Looks great Port.  Looks like a lot of fun.  Hope I can find one before the world goes mad.

Interesting....... if it was off and now back on that likely says a person was prepared to pay and the owner accept (but we don't know the exact price), either the financing feel through or the condition wasn't as good as believed and a PPI may have identified some issues requiring attention, to what extent we don't know.

Also there's now competition with the black S2 at $39,500 still around with 83,000 kms less.

Based on my limited knowledge here the price appears more appropriate at this level, PPI items not withstanding further room for negotiation.

A few of the listings on Gumtree are gone.....

Red ones in Perth and Adelaide both gone and the ones being wrecked in Queensland gone.

Speaking of Perth 944s

The arse-clown that has the supposed "89" 944 on Gumtree at Maddington is full of sh1t.  I don't think the car actually exists.  I rang & spoke to him 4 times over the past week trying to get a photo of the vin plate & a few better interior photos & keep getting the same "i'll send them in an hour".  I told him I was preparred to put a deposit down pending a PPI but that I wanted to check the VIN & just see some interior detail.

Pity, it looked like a nice car & I wouldn't have minded the auto as a commuter.  Said he was at 1731 Albany Hwy Kenwick, some business called Car One Wholesalers.  I would recommend avoiding dealings with Mark as he appears to be a world class, time-wasting knob jockey.  Just sayin'.........

Did you view the red one that was listed in cottesloe recently? If so, was it any good?

I never get this sort of attitude from sellers, whether professional or private. Either you advertise that a car is for sale and do everything in your power to expedite a sale, or    don't advertise a car and thereby don't waste anyone's time...

Agree completely.  It is a dead set pain in the ring chasing what you think might be a car you'd like only to be increasingly frustrated & stymied by a right bullshit artist.  I reported his gumtree add as a scam/ non responsive advertiser.  Though much like ebay I believe it will be a fairly toothless act.

No mate, I'm in Brissy.

cheers,

Speaking of 944 actual sale prices and problems associated ..and $$$$ repairs that come with these "bargains"

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PORSCHE-944-manual-/322210072220?hash=item4b0537869c:g:uGsAAOSwtnpXmsp-

This one was mentioned few days back In what's for sale Australia ..... Long story short I drove this and had a quick look to buy 6 months back friend of a friend of a friends car. Move in same circles now he's a mate and chatted with him at BBQ last week ..... Struggled to get anyone to look at it back then at $12500 . He sold the car a few weeks back for $10500 no rwc no ppi and with problems buyer was going to fix....seems current flipper has not disclosed or photos of: Buckled front wheel, Air cond wont hold gas, fan works sometimes,  tears front seat, speakers shot, firewall under battery rusted out tarred up leaks inside, car resprayed, passenger window doesn't open, petrol fumes in cockpit, needs windscreen, wipers and washers need attention, oil and water leaks, and that's all I can remember he old me.

Sure three's bargains out there but are these low priced entry level P cars actually worth it when you think of some of the labour costs that must go into having an oldie brought up to speed? Sure it's usally worth it for a 911 or I guess a 928 but 944's and especially 924"s?

Good on you Sandy, thanks for letting us know what needs doing.  I hate it when sellers aren't honest & forthcoming.  The whole buyer beware has never sat well with me.  I've always tried to be as complete as possible when on selling things (often to my detriment).

cheers,

Jason

Cheers!

I would have loved to pick and choose but from my learnings with the 911 and then the 260, you can't really afford to wait for the perfect one. I would have loved a turbo too but they're outside my range unfortunately.

I'm pretty stoked and can't wait until it's trucked back to Perth!

Here's an image from the Gumtree site, it's the only one I have;

Got her licenced on Friday. RJP Motorsport sorted all the little bugs and she's sweet. Couldn't recommend the guy enough.

So my first few spins in a Porsche I realise people don't like Porsche drivers for some reason..... I also have a classic Holden from the 60s which generates all kinds of positive behaviour from people whenever I drive it, people seem to love me when I drive it. Quite the opposite in the Porsche, people think I'm a wanker. I'm the same guy FFS!! Weird.
