That's a very nice car when you consider the 1 owner providence (presuming he's loved it).  The grey interior colour can let a car down with high wear, but in that condition it looks great against Basalt.  As a completely biased owner of one, I'd argue his $109k price is actually pretty close to recent market sales.

Just for accuracy here mate, it's not Basalt Black .. it's Atlas Grey .. (although in some light, it does look black) :cool07:

and .. I'd have to agree with your above thoughts. I also reckon it's on the money at $109k judging by other recent sales and your completely biased owner opinion .. 😅

And its now on Hold...

There is confirmation of market price. $109/114 - whichever, these are now clearly at ~$110 Mark. And in less then 24 hours.

Hmm. I have my 996 C2 up for sale (here only) at $80k ONO and have really only had nibbles. Bit hard when we're in lockdown I suppose.
Perhaps it's time I, sigh... Put it up on carsales. The right stuff moves pretty quickly on there.

Probably worth bumping your ad here - and some of FB market sites are quite good, it means anyone pining you is at least not anonymous

Can’t remember if I already posted in this thread.
Maybe FB marketplace is the go. I’ve heard worse experiences on there than with CS though.

If you want to sell a car and are serious, The worst thing you can do  Is remove the "For sale" And introduce an escape  path with will accept  a part swap , Confusess the punter.

Oh gee, I had forgotten that bit was still in there. I’ve secured another car so I don’t need a swap anymore.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Someone was asking if it was still available over in the sale thread.

12 Months ago 55-65 k Was their mark.

Low klm, 1 owner, 6 speed manual Carrera 4S s were closer to the 80 to 90K range 12 months ago from my observations

You would have been extremely lucky to pick up an auto with much higher klms  at the range you're speaking of a year back.

I paid $61K for my former C4S in May of last year (15 months ago) and that was at the low end of the market. That was a tipper with !16,000 klms on the clock at the time.

For the record, the Atlas gray C4S that just sold went for $112,500. It's coming with invoices for every service its ever had (all through Porsche Centre Melbourne, with the exception of the latest work done on it that took place at Auto Coupe in Victoria. This latest work included IMS upgrade, RMS, new clutch among other incidentals).

@tomo’s memory is correct, because I still have the sting of not having pulled the trigger on one of those cars too (with my 20-20 hindsight) 😩

I'll give you guys some perspective, I wasn't looking 12-18months ago. I think 996 C4S are great value at current prices, in fact great value for what you get,  that's a lot of car and fun for the money in today's market,  no point looking back.  Only my opinion.

You’re right, it’s all personal perspective. I think my issue is, 12-18 months ago this was Turbo money. With that in mind, I bought a C2. But I’ve always been more of a Kate Moss over Kate Upton guy anyway, so I’m not missing the hips 😁

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but if we’re using the term “value”… My caution is: when the car market bubble we’re in contracts, will <$100k on a non-GT 996 still make sense in terms of value? My gut is, when the semiconductor shortage is over and regular car prices come crashing back to earth, that will undoubtedly drag non-exotic sports cars down with it.

Everyone on this thread without a GT is in that boat. So the further before the current craziness you bought (or didn’t) correlates to how interpret the current values.

I was also lucky enough to buy "just" before things went so crazy ... but the reason I spent more on my C4S than on a Carrera is as follows ...

In order to keep some sense of value in a car, it needs to have that "something special" ... or a twist as I call it.

I was originally looking for a turbo, but when I saw the prices rising I opted out of that higher price point ... then came the C4S.

It was made in lower numbers than the rest of the 996 family (obviously excluding GT and Turbo) and had that something special ... hips, chassis, brakes, suspension and of course that dead sexy Heckblende (rear red reflector) ... 🤤

History tells us that something special has almost always been the order of the day, and that is proven in today's market with the C4S being the most sought after car in the 996 range (for the lay-man every day buyer).

In terms of coming crashing back to earth ... I don't see it happening as a crash. No one that has bought recently is going to do their money and sell at a loss if they paid $110k +

These cars are more of a luxury item and selling them "tends to be" an emotional sale rather than a forced sale. If there is no desperation, then prices stay steady .. if that happens then buyers have the choice to either buy or not, but will need to pay to play ..

Agreed, as long as nothing puts any outside pressure on the market , like an economic crash or financial crisis of sorts.

To clarify my statement, before this thread possibly erupts into speculation on the car market: I think the regular car market will crash. Specifically, things like the outrageous way Japanese SUVs have increased in value due to supply constraints. I think the specialist market will be dragged down by that in a deflationary way. Slow and gentle as demand decreases, vs the aforementioned pop.

Agree 100% - used modern or more current cars of all types won’t keep going up once supply comes back but a 20 year old (like 996) or so modern classic, especially a special version …. Different buyer IMHO, different forces at work…

Abridged and seasonally adjusted.
