Whats for sale (in Australia ) and interesting Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok, my car is going on the market shortly. Much much sooner than I wanted :/ but it is what it is.  I'm driving it from Newcastle to Canberra next monday (NSW long weekend) if anyone wants to take a look.

Wanna catch up? Coffee and a drive?

Wonder why this is still for sale  ?? anyone had a look at it

 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-911-Carrera-1986/SSE-AD-3906080/?Cr=16

I believe it is still for sale. I spoke to one of the owners. It wasn't the car for me. I guess as they told me the story I can pass it on. 2 current Porsche owners bought it off somebody they knew, with the idea of trading it on to help fund their "habit". I din't like the fact that the tacho is broken, although they assure me it hasn't done many kms since. Overall, for me, I wasn't keen on the colour (my RS was red and i want a change) plus I wasn't keen on the interior colour. If the car had stood out, I might have overcome my prejudices. it also slightly bugged me that there were so few pictures because although the guy seemed honest, you never know. It is meant to have a decent history with the car, but overall, nothing said to me "go see this car".

Evening Gents

Things are a little tense on the home front and I have been "kindly" asked by my wife to sell my 911SC by the end of the weekend (or else...)

Price dropped significantly as I value the ongoing companionship of my lovely wife: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1113887192

The car needs some serious love. $26K is firm.

PM if interested.

BTW - I accept I have opened myself up for an onslaught of heckle and banter. I humbly welcome it.

Don't worry mate we've all been there, anyway it's cheaper in the long run for you if you know what I mean:)

Hard to say anymore, 928 prices are all over the place.... Although there are a few around this price point. Strange way to advertise a car, list it for $25k and in the same add say it is on sale for $18k, even though it is a new add??!

I think he may be wrong with his claim of HP though and bagging out the 86 model. From what I understand the 85 model in Australia was detuned (lower compression) to 275 hp, I presume due to our poor fuel - someone correct me if I am wrong??

"Special two-valve 4.7 L engine (9.3:1 c/r) option M151 for Australia. Compression change was done with different shape piston tops. Coupled only with automatic transmission. Engine number is same M28/22 as the high-compression 2-valve engines."

Well someone believed the BS, or not? Listed as sold! Some 928s seem to move quickly....

A little confusing to say the least! Listed as a 996 turbo, which it aint and the add then says GT3, which it aint too!! No mention at all in the description about said turbo, but it does have a leather gear knob!!!??

What's say the 3 the most expensive 928 manual sold in Aust in last 12 months?

Not sure, but they do seem to be attracting a bit of interest at the moment.

I let a few people know I was thinking of getting out of mine (Aust del, manual, sunroof delete, first gen etc.) and already have 3 people lined up to look at it purely by word of mouth.

Stay strong comrade ; sounds like you've accepted the captain's call,  which is probably a wise decision. Very fairly priced car from what I can see. Ex Japan?

Yes I saw that and may be relevant if it was a turbo to begin with which it is not. Are we to assume that it is AWD too...... the 265kw claim does not add up?? If it was a turbo engine it would have over 300kw.... still a mystery..... a GT3 has 265 kw without any turbos.... ??!!

It's a carrera with aftermarket turbo, I'm pretty sure we hung shit on it a few pages back now...

That is what it appears to be, but wouldn't you say so in the add instead of saying it is a turbo and then a GT3!! A word starting with W springs to mind.....

I did contact the top three bidders and I've had radio silence. It probably means that the highest bidder at $27K would have been a no show any way. Bloody eBay people. I think half of them just like the thrill of pressing the 'submit bid' button - it's like playing the ponies, only when you put in the most money at the end of the day you actually win something.

Must be something about yellow turbo's.  Yes I got a Trovit alert with the Title of that ad a day or two back.  I have to confess that the pulse did race a bit quicker along with the movement of the mouse and index finger clicking rate whilst thinking is this a quick flip / swap opportunity.   But upon opening the pic, I thought, more of a flop opportunity, eg too many mods.  But I will give credit where credit is due, sighting that top notch mod work to the stock TURBO side scoops quickly lowered my pulse.  (i.e That mod and workmanship appeared as good as if not better than factory work)

But Trovit also throws up its curve balls when it comes to yellow turbo's and ad titles.  Pulse raced a bit quicker on the ad below.   But in the back of the mind I am thinking is this a case of the holy grail (that illusive jilted ex knowing how to really stick it their very recent former partner and acting in full capacity as agent for an behalf of) or is someone (even a bot) taking the piss online or is it just a case of  I/O (idiot operator) error on the keyboard caused by high number dyslexia that I am guilty of many a time (eg forgot to consider the autoformat / positioning of the comma (f%^&in Cr's and lak's) ) and a lack of a zero somewhere in that number.  eg first digit started with the right number and appeared to be 6 digits when I checked prior to hitting the  send / confirm button

Some may pick something up totally useless they didn't know today,  but for reference 1 Cr = 10 million.   1 Lak = 100,000, .   1 million = 10Lak or 0.1Cr.   I need to constantly keep an eye out on those zero's and where the comma is placed, eg is it 10^5, 10^6 or 10^7.

and ebay is so easy to get out of you only have to file a complaint and ebay acts in the purchasers favor and its too easily an dthey have the rights as per your agreements , to snatch the money back…for the most minor of niggles made up by the buyer.

Watch out for ebay no real place to sell cars .. a great place to market them though
