Pauly Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 After having a good chat with Christian today, It got me thinking. What are your hobbies other then your P car? I'll start, I've always enjoyed music, I use to DJ in a few clubs around Melbourne, but now i keep it more quiet and do stuff like fashion & art shows and the occasional xmas party or birthday. Wedding now and then too. Photography and filming at my own skill level. just to get away from other things. I also enjoy building custom parts for engines in my own time. Mike D'Silva Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 Radio Controlled aeroplanes.... mainly electric... and high speed gliders (up to 250km/h) but I am getting out of the hobby as I have not flown for a couple years now. Oh, and of course my motorcycles...

Would love to hear from other musos on the list.
PeterP Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 Breeding thoroughbred horses, although scaled back a bit at the moment whilst looking for a new role; oh, and golf, but that's more like a torture than a hobby !!
pocketscience Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 Designing and building electronics and software projects - mostly for my own amusement. Most interesting has been a little system I designed (using Arduino, RaspberryPi, python, C, Zigbee/Xbee) that tracks the International Space Station and tells me (via LCD display and blinky LEDs) when it's visible and overhead so I can pop outside an stare up in wonder as it whizzes overhead. Norm Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 I devote quite a bit of time to my photography and golf but I agree it's not really a hobby so much as a psychological test..
ArthurK Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 My vice is RC Helicopters - havent flown them for a while but have 2 nitro and one electric. Kids, family and business has kept me from enjoying them as of late. My longer term hobby has been Home Theatre sound systems and my latest creation has been labour of love. Took 15 months to complete the room but the end result has blown me away. Its the most advanced setup I have completed right down to the sound/acoustics engineering installed in the room. The crown jewel of the room is the sound processor which is a residential version of what commercial cinemas use.

Simonk Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 Many of you know one of my hobbies is movie making but the hobbie that currently ranks higher than anything else (even the Porsche) is windsurfing. I learnt back when I was a teenager but unintentionally gave it away when I got to uni. Too many other interests got in the way (cigarettes and alcohol mainly). Last year I got the old gear out and gave it a go and got hooked on it again. So this combines my interest in movie making with my love of windsurfing. Other than that, my sporting hobbies include mountain biking and road riding, waterskiing and snow boarding. I don't really have any other non sporting hobbies other than I guess photography. Is Playstation a hobby? I love playing Gran Turismo and have the full cockpit setup.
edgy Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 I think the cars have (for the most part) always been at the top of the list! Aside from that I have always had a strong passion for music.. in high school I picked up the 6 string, then learnt some basic drums, bass, piano.. for the last decade or more I have been strongly influenced in dance music (underground type sounds mainly), I DJ (still do) but haven't played a club gig in a couple of years now... its more of a personal thing now. The more chilled out sounds are prevailing these days, still love all good music though. Aside from that stuff boating/fishing and food + wine... actually in March just gone I competed in Australia's biggest barbecue competition to date and bagged a 3rd outright... so I guess you could say I'm slightly mad for the cue. Storm Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 Other then the real life cars I also have proper competition r/c cars on road and off road, and F1 and first person shooters on the computer get a good playing too.
Kerry Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 I run an automotive forum which seems to take up nearly all of my allocation of hobby hours... ...however I can report that an emerging hobby developing is getting underneath/inside my two german automobiles, and having a tinker! (and before I start getting PMs, and for all the purists out there, no superchargers/turbos/or NOS will be fitted to any RS in my garage!!!) LeeM Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 Buying FAR too many guitars! I'm a tradie by day and a muso in an acoustic duo with regular (too many sometimes) gigs around Adelaide on most weekends, and weddings or private and corporate functions. We do mainly 70's to 90's covers from Neil Diamond to Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon etc etc. It WAS just a hobby learning to play guitar after I stopped racing Superbikes, yet watching quite a few duo's and bands playing crap music very badly got me thinking 'I could do that'! My mate that taught me my first 3 chords is now my singer, and hates me coz I play better than he does now! It's fun most of the time, except for pissed idiots, but the money is half decent for sitting on a stool playing a guitar! I had planned to start racing Karts again last year ( I raced them for coupla years),and even bought a Rotax 125 for me and the missus to muck around with, but the 912 came up and I had to grab it. Karts are on my list 'to do' when the car is finished. I also want to take up golf again, as I got my handicap down to 10 then stopped due to a buggered knee. I had a go at RC gas cars for about 9 nanoseconds, but they have to be THE most frustrating money pit I've ever had the displeasure of undertaking! Never again!! KBGr4 Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 So apart from NA 911's..there is rallying and historic rallying (you haven't really lived till you have been in a works BDA at full noise with a good punter) and then there's scuba diving ! and underwater video and did I mention I love diving :-)

TrevMcRev Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 Still car related... I guess I have to say it "used" to be rallying as I haven't competed for a few years now.... Lot's of fun, and thinking about getting back into it - would love to in a Porsche! Funny I used to say when competing, "For all the money i've spent rallying I could've bought a Porsche!" .... Now that I've bought a Porsche I can't justify the spend on rallying! Though the real cost of rallying is Time, and with what little spare there is for me is spent with my kids first. Here's the ol' Mk2 RS2000 Escort: And the Lancer...used to be quite modern but kind of a classic now too! Other than cars it's trees... climbing big ones! Uncle Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 RC Helicopters are like sudoku for me. The mechanical side I find very interesting and the physics of flying a 3D heli requires you to think about so many things at once very quickly it really stretches your brain. Not to mention flying a heli upside down close to the ground equals a repair bill when your dumb thumbs get it wrong.
