Coastr Posted 27January, 2015 Report Share Posted 27January, 2015 Alright then. The car has been hit, rather heavily on the driver's side. it was repaired, but admittedly, poorly and it slopes down more on that side. When it was repaired, the whole car was re-sprayed but not the original green. The engine has apparently been rebuilt but little or no receipts. the gearbox was not fully rebuilt but syncro done on the 2nd gear. I have no issue with any other part of the car except the above mentioned. Is this an issue? Isn't the owner of the green one a member here? Wasn't the hit disclosed a few pages back?Would you repair the car and do a full respray in another colour without repairing the car properly? Why would someone do it that way? Rightly or wrongly....These issues would make me think other things are not done properly. Only my thoughts. Repair probably dates back few years when it was just another old Porsche. Or maybe done in someone's garage. You'd have to get a repair specialist to look at it and assess things. It could be difficult to get it right again. Mustn't have been much of a rebuild if it had to come out again so quickly
SteamWolf Posted 27January, 2015 Report Share Posted 27January, 2015 Not necessarily. Disregarding the fact that chasing leaks is an endless task on our cars regardless of how well maintained they are, there's a good chance it's only done 5-10,000km a year so that engine rebuild may have been anywhere from two to ten years ago. Very few of us use our cars as daily drivers. Russ
G5032 Posted 28January, 2015 Report Share Posted 28January, 2015 Good point steamwolf..... Lack of use is the biggest culprit for leaks as oil hoses, seals, gaskets ext tend to dry out which will eventually lead to leaks...so I would subscribe to the theory that a relatively fresh rebuild kilometre wise may spring some leaks after a couple of years if not driven regularly. I think a leak down and compression test will be a better indicator on how fresh the motor is.
JV911 Posted 28January, 2015 Report Share Posted 28January, 2015 True but in this case the car has a ) been stacked and repaired poorly and b ) allegedly had an engine rebuild but no receipts I reserve the right to remain sceptical firstone and dragon02
Peter M Posted 28January, 2015 Report Share Posted 28January, 2015 The owner always struck me as a decent bloke on this forum and was always enthusiastic and very positive about his car and its performance. Always gave the impression that he didn't skimp when spending money on it either when it was required. Maybe a recent PPI has uncovered something that he simply wasn't aware of before he put it on the market and he has just readjusted the price in response. Agree with buyer beware cautions but let's not jump to conspiracy theories just yet. StephenS
reggiegums Posted 28January, 2015 Report Share Posted 28January, 2015 the car was previously sold pending a PPI but walked away after the inspection. Fair enough the seller has adjusted his price since then. Its a nice car with everything else seemingly done right. I am personally just not comfortable with a poor repair plus a re-spray in the non original colour.
hugh Posted 28January, 2015 Report Share Posted 28January, 2015 Ok, I feel the need to ask the question............... To clarify, are we talking about the SC or the Cayman? I think the 2 cars are getting confused, or maybe its just me?

Only kidding .... it's the SC that we're all talking about .....I too have the impression that he cares about his car ....Reggiegums is correct .... Will didn't know about the damage before a potential buyer got a PPI ... that why the lower price.

Caledonian Posted 28January, 2015 Report Share Posted 28January, 2015 how hard (expensive) is the sporto to 915 swap? At a rough guess: 915 Box $4-$5K Manual Pedal Box $250 Shifter $250 - $600 Clutch kit $800-$1200 Flywheel - $250 -$1000 Drive shafts to suit $200 - $500 Clutch cable and anything i can't think of right now $350+ So unless your sporto box was totally stuffed its probably not something you would do for the sake of it. I know a guy who has one and it does not seem to slow him down, in fact he's quite passionate about Sportomatics. Even to the extent of starting Sportomatic thread tazzieman
