One of only two RHD 964 RS 3.8's ever produced!  And originally delivered to Australia!  Wow!

I have had the pleasure of driving the Australian delivered car back in 2010.

I posted pictures on Rennlist but unfortunately they are no longer there and because of a hard drive failure some years ago I have lost them. I will look further and see if I can dig them up.

I don't have words to describe the experience.

On the lookout for a 3.2?  A red one?

European delivery but located in the US (somewhere!)

Looks nice...I'll be watching to see if 3.2 fever is alive and well there.

I don't know how the US market sees imports...  Do they have the same importance on "US delivered" like we do Oz delivered?

Or has this guy just applied some very nice copywriting to his ad - "highly desirable European model with more power & lighter bumpers"

Used to be that grey imports were seen as undesirables...but I think now that everyone and his dog converts their lights to H4, tries to find ways of liberating their rear bumpers from the massive overriders and searches for ways to liberate their engines from smog equipment, I think the grey market car is coming into it's own.  There are a lot of threads on Pelican about switching a car to ROW spec.  There is no doubt that an 84 or 85 Carrera in ROW trim is more powerful than the equivalent US delivered model (says he with a California SC!)   The issue is that you may not be able to register it in some states (a car like this would still require smog testing in california) and that some grey imports had dodgy 'federalisation' done to it - meaning dodgy additions for things like reflectors, emissions.  Kind of like how some Skylines are better compliance in Oz than others.  If you read Peter Zimmerman's book there is a chapter promising hell and damnation on those who purchase Federalized cars, just based on dodgy work he had seen come through the workshop, but he concedes it was easy to do it properly using Porsche parts.

Ultimately the question of imports is the same in most places - importing a car was a way of washing the cars history and making a quick buck.  There are plenty of dodgy imports in Australia and I'm sure even more so in the USA.  But as cars age condition takes priority over original dealer location and so a grey import, federalised car probably doesn't carry the same stigma as it once did.

Not sure why this one doesn't show it's state on the ad though - the car seems decent but you'd want to find out where it is and whether it has been winter-driven.

Check out where he is in USA.

It appears to me he is surrounded by water on three sides, and Canada on the fourth.  What an odd place.   Would snow and freeze for sure.

Oh yeah, I've been there actually - I was in those parts in January.

The weather is actually pretty mild.  More like the the south of the UK than what you associate with Canada. Because it's right next to the water and the NorthWest pacific it doesn't really get that cold.  Probably only snows once or twice per winter.  It does rain, however - a lot.

It's a pretty wealthy area, though, so you'd have a much better chance of it being a garaged 3rd car than a daily driver in slush.  Certainly not much UV damage if the car has lived there most of it's life, but a good chance of rust.

But it's no Arizona or California, that's for sure.  It's no Michigan, either.

Yeah. That part of the world is super wet. Not so much snow on that side of the Rockies, though.
