Zelrik911 Posted 8October, 2017 Report Share Posted 8October, 2017 I'd be getting another opinion from a respected 996 specialist. Really sick if there's oil in the water or vice versa or could just be a little bit of neglect/underuse, resulting in sticky lifter and AOS or coolant tank leak. I think 'low oil pressure' is the indication its truly fuched. Looks like the guy got shafted when he bought this car with an IMS on way out in Sydney. How much does it cost to get an engine locally or from USA? ?Cost for repairs locally are astronomical. Sad as its a good looking car.

Zelrik911 Posted 8October, 2017 Report Share Posted 8October, 2017 (edited) I've seen m96's for sale around 6k. If I could find a 'good' one in USA for this price, I reckon it would be a great investment to buy & import (even though I dont have a car at this stage).Better than money in the bank & always quickly saleable if you change your mind. DT Posted 9October, 2017 Report Share Posted 9October, 2017 I think 'low oil pressure' is the indication its truly fuched. Looks like the guy got shafted when he bought this car with an IMS on way out in Sydney. How much does it cost to get an engine locally or from USA? ?Cost for repairs locally are astronomical. Sad as its a good looking car.Depends what he means by low oil pressure, if the light's flicking on at hot idle or under 3 bar at 5k rpm something's up...but it could be as simple as cleaning out an oil pick up tube that's been partially blocked by excess silicone sealant and/or variocam pad material. If it's a hot idle issue maybe a cheap/simple swap out of the oil pressure relief valve spring and piston with the updated 997 unit. Maybe changing to a good 5w 40 might help. I'd be getting another opinion and not relying on 'a mechanics external view'.Also not sure what you mean by 'Looks like the guy got shafted when he bought this car with an IMS on way out in Sydney.'? How do you know the 'IMS' was 'on the way out' when he bought the car in Sydney? How do you link a running engine that's just started to make a tapping noise, has low oil pressure and 'some coolant loss' with 'IMS on the way out' and then assume he was 'shafted' by the previous owner in Sydney? symsy Posted 10October, 2017 Report Share Posted 10October, 2017 Current rule of thumb @turboT all things could/should be 150 150 - Long Hood , 150 Gt3 Mk1 - 150 at best that 930 .. shit you would buy a 993 turbo… The GT3's will be the least shagged out of the lot of em ..150 is a lot of money in this market place.. Realistically whats moving ..Get an import in ya garage I just did Im trying to catch up with Toms.. Outlaw Imports Emporium Im gonna wait till they are all 120 and add a few cars to the garage ..cos I like to keep em PS are L words D words actually allowed on this thread , Loss and Depreciation PPS im in the Enthusiastic and Appreciation game but I can always pull out the F word and Flip a few on the way down.. remember trading profts can be had in both directions .. its a question of how well you buy .Did anyone help Joe out with his 20k clip and take the 991.2 GT3 allocation of his hands yet .. thats gonna be like Bitcoin Scott930, smit2100, turboT and 4 others
