ANF Posted 26August, 2016 Report Share Posted 26August, 2016 (edited) Following on from @GUT 's thread I could not help but to have a look at some AMG's..... Cannot go past a CLK 55 for less than $20k... bloody nice car!! Wishing I had some spare space and coin!!http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Mercedes-Benz-CLK55-2000/SSE-AD-4156090/?Cr=1Or about $10k if the 4.3 litre V8 and non AMG is enough for you. In the same vein as the 928, a lot of car (and performance) for your $$$ (A CLK 430 was seriously considered when buying my 928....) TINGY Posted 26August, 2016 Report Share Posted 26August, 2016 Are these worth buying? Not for me but looking for someone else.http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Mercedes-Benz-C180-1997/SSE-AD-4174827/?Cr=

In the same vein as the 928, a lot of car (and performance) for your $$$ (A CLK 430 was seriously considered when buying my 928....)I do believe it was the fastest coupe in the world when released. Give it some kleemann boost and away you go Before I bought a c32 my heart was set on a w210 e55. There was a black one for sale in TAS that was apparently owned previously by Mick Doohan. It was beautiful - designo interior and just perfect. It was too much for me to buy (it think it was $36k) in 2010. That was the fish that got away from me. I modded the hell out of the 32 but I would not have touched that 55 if I got it. ANF
ANF Posted 26August, 2016 Report Share Posted 26August, 2016 I had a w210 E320 (m104) for about 7 years, best car I have had, miss it...E55 is always a fav, as is its lesser known sibling the E36, almost as quick but lighter I may still get an E55, although the CLK 55 looks stunning! Tips Posted 27August, 2016 Report Share Posted 27August, 2016 Even CLK63's are coming into the right price point ? Only issue with AMG is the rip off at the dealership for consumable parts like brake rotors etc a big hike up on the same model in non AMG. ANF Posted 27August, 2016 Report Share Posted 27August, 2016 Every part is a rip-off at an MB dealer.... Yes the brakes are known for being expensive, but then again they are dammed good

Ask for Jimmy the proprietor, I have used him for years been to a tech day at his shop, and he owns a couple of older MB's himself and will give you honest feedback on a car and pricing of repairs. tazzieman Posted 8September, 2016 Report Share Posted 8September, 2016 http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-unimog-404/That's a very sound price for a very desirable vehicle. It would go most places most modern 4wds couldn't. I want one. And an 0-319.

tazzieman Posted 22October, 2016 Report Share Posted 22October, 2016 This afternoon I returned from a quick visit to Melbourne, to attend a motorshow and a real show (We Will Rock You, the Queen musical). Both were superb and the motorshow gave me chance to chat to several owners about their passion. For example Murray , a fitter and turner/toolmaker who has spent decades restoring his car , requiring skills such as sculpting & casting unobtainable pieces from brass and having them chrome plated. And Juan , a fellow quietly going about his business with needle , thread and thimble - real running repairs. And talk about the guy who bought his 1922 machine in 1976 and finished restoration this year - 40 years! Here is a summary of the event , for now just the Mercedes-Benz section.https://sites.google.com/site/classicamotor/homeAnd Chad McQueen (Steve's son) spoke as part of a Q&A session.. Plenty of ripe Hollywood anecdotes - Charles Bronson, James Garner , Ringo Starr , Bruce Lee all popped around for dinner when he was a kid. Bruce taught him some martial arts , before he became a legend. ANF

ANF Posted 5December, 2016 Report Share Posted 5December, 2016 Nice one. I'll be interested in your long term report. Here it is With over a year behind me now in the big ML I can report that it has exceeded most of what I thought it could do. Of late it's handling has been put into question basically because I have been driving the 928 while my wife drives the ML while her car is being fixed. But for an SUV it handles very well. It carries a lot, my wife loves it, as do my son and the dog loves being in the back instead of sliding around on leather rear seats. Handles the rough/ dirt roads very well and it's size shrinks on you the more you drive it. I hope I get it back after the wife's car is fixed, can't wear out my 928 On the maintenance front (and I hope I do not jinx myself now!) all that it has needed is a regular service (oil and filters) plus new tyres. So a big thumbs up for the ML
tazzieman Posted 13December, 2016 Report Share Posted 13December, 2016 Get on the tools in style. Amaroks are so common, and probably dirty as well.http://www.caradvice.com.au/344850/mercedes-benz-ute-german-hilux-rival-to-launch-in-australia-around-2018/http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/90977/new-mercedes-x-class-signals-birth-of-the-premium-pick-up Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles has been working on the project for several years, and calls the forthcoming ute the “first pick-up from a premium manufacturer”. tazzieman Posted 14December, 2016 Report Share Posted 14December, 2016 Can anyone provide some assistance on how can one determine if an older 70's merc was Aussie delivered? On my 60s mercs , there is a number on the paint code plate next to the radiatorThe "9" on the second line is the code for Australia. Other countries - see https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/DealerandCountryCodes#AustraliaIf you are the owner , MB dealers provide the original datacard for free. Much more info on that of course.
