Well done @bergerac, not much on the market lately, 168 photos must be a world record

Thanks for all the advice on the shifters guys, I appreciate it all. And congrats @bergerac on the buy! Looks like a really nice example!

Side note, does anyone have 2 black and chrome cookie cutters they're looking to get rid of? The one I bought had two spare wheels which were black and chrome so I need two more.

Did you end up ordering a shifter? Apparently Only944 aren't shipping to Australia at the moment.

agreed, I tried to buy it but was too slow.

I never realized till yesterday that 1990 944 turbos like that one came with the cast design 90 rims & only the 1989 Turbos came to Aus with the forged wheels

Only 15 of the 1990 Turbos ever came to Australia. Forged wheels or not, still very rare and the last of the line! I had a chance to buy one of these years ago and I'm kicking myself for not doing so now!

yep only 15 in 1990 with the cast wheels and 38 in 1989 that came with the forged wheels - I've tracked down a 89 & should have it next week (transport permitting)

I never realized we got no 250HP cars in 1991 or 1988 for that matter - we only got them in 89 & 90 - 53 in total 250HP cars

this one is sold subject to inspection - $72 or 73k I believe

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1990-porsche-944-turbo-manual/OAG-AD-20368929/?Cr=13

I made enquiries on that one - I’d be happy to find out more but I wasn’t convinced it was a $75k car, even accounting for its relative rarity on these shores

However from what I’ve found about this one…

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1989-porsche-944-s2-manual/SSE-AD-12292048

… I’ve currently got it on my shortlist, though circumstances currently playing out may mean I buy something else - will know by the end of the day.

Anyway, if anyones interested in what I’ve found out about this S2 feel free to send me a message

I believe $73k was pretty good buying for that car - its one of 53 250HP cars to come here. Im not a fan of the colour but cant be too choosey with these ultra rare cars unless you are prepared to wait a long time or want an import.

Why would you even bother with that S2, its a USA import - might as well spend the same or a  bit more and get a really nice aussie S2

Re: 944T - like I said, from what I had found out, I felt $70k+ to be a strong price for that car

Re: S2 - I have no problems with imported cars, and at 30+ years I'm buying on condition, not origin. From the photos I have seen that are not in the ad, that car is clean. From the conversation I've had with the owner, that car has been well-maintained. Its not perfect, but its on the East Coast, and is substantially cheaper than the next S2 on this side of the country. Its also a nice colour!

Does look nice, any idea where it came from? I looked at a couple 944s that had come from the UK and both had rust in the sills or lower fenders. Would be something worth checking out. Judging by those bumpers it came from somewhere else though. www.vinalylitics.com will give you a report with the country of delivery and the options for a small price

VIN makes it a US car but it’s been in Australia since May 96, nearly 26 years. Photos I’ve been sent show a very clean underside.

Re: UK 944 and transaxles, I’ve been looking to import my own, there are several specialists over there who know exactly where to look and those who know how to do the repair work. For me, a 944 with ample evidence of effective repair doesn’t pose a problem, but we’re all different. They’re all 30+ years old, and repair is inevitable at some stage.

Definitely less appetite for rust repairs in Australia. Guess there's more rust free cars in general so people can afford to be more picky. Good luck with your search, took me 2 years of dreaming and 6 months of serious searching.

ok, in my search for a 944T I have found 2 cars not advertised anywhere -

a Red 1986 with 295,000 kms for $47k in QLD

Dark Blue 1988 with 240,000 kms from memory $75k+ in Vic

both aussie cars pm if you are keen

I HAVE NO FINANCIAL INTEREST IN THESE CARS AND DONT KNOW THE OWNERS

I thought it odd you'd have 5 owners with those k's.  What's the point?

I use to be one of those 5 owners - from 2005-2009. 1st owner was on the Gold Coast who passed away in 1999, second owner (also on the Gold Coast) bought it from the deceased estate and sold it as he needed funds for medical costs. I bought it ($38,100) and sold it to buy another property in June 2009 and made $600 at the height of the financial crisis.

I sold it to a well known collector in Sydney, who then sold it to Classic Throttle Shop 2013. I was told by someone in the Porsche Club that John Borgetti (former Virgin CEO) owned it as well (owner 5).

Stunning looking example. Why couldn't that have been available when I was patiently looking for a red one years ago!
