924 and 924 turbo market watch - oz market

I'm envious of the dash... not a crack to be seen.

Agree that it looks like a fair buy, pity the engine bay doesn't match the rest of the car. Suspect the biggest problem the 924 has now is that 986 boxsters are beginning to encroach the cheapest Porsche space and have all the modern benefits. Would be a cheap fun car if it is indeed clean, and red is the best 924 colour :-) .

Looks like a good buy if you're brave enough to import from the UK

UK imports of this age always make me nervous due to rust and at 8k pound one wonders if waiting for something in Australia wouldn't be smarter. I do like two tone 924s though, and the Pasha interior is very cool. Not a fan of the front mounted intercooler, not against the technology, more against the body hacks required to make them work.

924 turbo for auction at pickles. I know nothing about the car however it looks relatively clean from the pics.

https://www.pickles.com.au/cars/item/-/details/C1981--Built-01-81--Porsche--924--Turbo--Coupe--4-Seats--2-Doors/2103186733

Interesting comment in the text of the add : Turbocharged - VERY RARE PORSCHE!

Pity about the decals on the car however if your tastes align with mine, I doubt they'd take much to remove.

What's the collective thought on what the car's market value is? $26k seems like a fair price to me, or am I out of touch with the 924 turbo market?

As much as I have a vested interest and I love my little front engined beast, and I'd like to think otherwise, I don't think they are at that mark yet ....

I would think that a semi-restored one "might" get to that point, but an unrestored one would be lucky to be in the high teens ...

I still hold out hope that they will rise and rise and have no doubt they will. There are quite a few articles on the net singing their praises and advising of their collectability.

A "fully restored" one sold in the UK for, I think, £40,000 ($65k) which was less than the restoration cost .... but it was better than when it was delivered new .... it was stunning!! It was part of a competition held by Porsche UK for the 40th anniversary of front engined Porsche's and was restored by Porsche Bournemouth . ...

You can still buy lovely examples in the UK for well under £10,000 ($16k) and they are ones owned by enthusiasts and very well looked after ....

Unfortunately I think he will be holding on to it for a little while yet .... the Aussie public haven't warmed to the higher prices of 924's yet.

I'd say a highly maintained unrestored 924 t trumps a restored puppy.

mid high 20's then why not? It's relatively rare and a bit of turbo period fun..

is the  above  such an example

Many arguements have been had over originality v restoration .... I certainly don't think we here on PFA are going to solve that one ...... but

recent listings v recent sales show that the high figures just aren't there .... that lovely grey over grey on Carsales was at one stage down to $29k ..... no sale at that price and in the seller's wisdom, increased his price to $39k .. in the UK, a stunning grey on grey Turbo has been on the market for a few months now at £10k ($16k) ..... it is just as good and probably even better than our one on car sales ..... it has been documented openly on a 924 forum and looked after and improved by an enthusiast ....  I believe that he will be trading it in at a car dealership on another car as it just won't move .....

I also own a 924T .... I call it my "80's turbo goodness" car ... I would like nothing more than for it to be worth a ton of cash (even though I won't be selling it), but the reality is that time just hasn't arrived ...

In the case of the 924 or Turbo, I personally believe that a restored example will command more money than an unrestored example .... my reason being that they aren't old enough for the purists to be so concerned with a resto and yet old enough that having a "old" car with nothing to be done to it will be far more appealing to buyers ...... my 0.02c only.

This one is back for sale at more than double the price it was 2 months ago ....

I'm not sure if it's the same seller or if it's been bought and then re-advertised.

At least this is "slightly" negotiable ...

$12k... I'm thinking that is a $3kcar, if someone was keen enough to take on all the work. The 924 turbo is a perfect example of how rarity isn't the primary driver behind the 'value' of a classic car. If the time comes where they become a desirable Porsche, then the rarity factor will make an impact, however at the moment any 924 turbo owner is really at the more extreme end of the enthusiast spectrum.

Very happy to be shouted down and convinced my car is worth many more $$$, yet I'm thinking $20-25kk for a tidy example is about where the money is... if you can find someone specifically wanting a 924 turbo.

Very perceptive. Most with 20-25k burning the back pocket will be looking at 944s IMO. And should also be looking at 928s,  which is an inherently far more solid if a little more complex.car.

I doubt 924s will ever become serious cult cars. Just enjoy them now!

Not sure what defines rare as I probably know of 15 924 turbos just in my travels.

They were only made for 3 years ....

At $40k a piece, they were the price of a house .... couldn't have been more than 200 delivered here ... and I reckon that's at a stretch ...

Let's assume that 1/2 have been laid to rest over the last 35 years ....

I'd say that 100 odd 924 Turbos left makes them a somewhat rare car .... :D

maybe not so desireable and sought after yet, but only 4 years ago, any impact bumper 911 could have been had for $20k - $30k, Longhood 911's were all forward dated, 914's and 912's weren't even considered a Porsche, and the 70's loud colours were all painted Guards Red  .....
