Jim45 Posted 5January, 2016 Report Share Posted 5January, 2016 Hi All - Been lurking for a month or so and have some questions so thought I'd say hello first.Live in Sydney and have been a fan of 911's since a kid.At the stage where I'm now actively looking for a 996 C2 3.6 Coupe / Targa to use as a daily. Been looking for about 8 months but the right one has not raised it's head yet.Would love a 70's SC but I don't think it would like being a daily and also the $$ may induce a divorce! Will keep you posted on progress..Cheers Jim. Bought my first one in November and loving every minute of it (despite a few niggling issues which you can see in the water cooled threads). Make sure you get the ims bearing upgraded for peace of mind and just bite the bullet and buy one. Amazing how these cars drive seeing as how old they are. This is my 2002 Targa manual with just 38000 kms on it. Pam986 and Jim45

lwbls1 Posted 26April, 2016 Report Share Posted 26April, 2016 Hi Everyone,The word on the street is this is the place to be for all things Porsche. I have set myself a modest budget and am now in the market for the car I never thought I would own. Looking at the 996 range preferably manual and probably a C2. Preferably seeking to get something that presents well cosmetically and doesn't vary too much from factory spec ( not after modified suspension, 20 inch wheels etc; though I question my sanity, given the IMS, bore scoring and D chunk issues I read about. Not after a convertible however as I have recently said goodbye to my late model Honda S2000, which satisfied my curiosity for soft-tops for the foreseeable future.Happy to hear from anyone who may have some words of wisdom or perhaps a lead on a car, - the good ones seem to sell very quickly.Looking forward to getting to know more about these wonderful vehicles, and hopefully learning and benefiting from the experience of others.Cheers Stewart

Don't discount the 996.1 - They are fundamentally the same other than a glove box and 200cc Have you checked the white 996.1 for sale in Adelaide..? Minus the 'subwoofa-mate' and the wheels perhaps.. AGM155 Posted 28April, 2016 Report Share Posted 28April, 2016 Hello everyone.I don't have a Porsche yet - a couple of years ago I wanted to buy an air cooled 911, but instead ended up moving to Europe.Although this afforded me many joys, including a visit to Stuttgart to see the museum and the chance to witness Porsche's return to the top class at Le Mans in 2014, I have rather missed the boat with air cooled 911 prices for the time being.Nevertheless I'm keen to get my hands on something relevant to this forum in the near future - most likely a 987 Boxster (although I have always had a soft spot for 928s...). I've almost always had multiple cars (mostly Alfas), but the appeal of Porsche to me is the way they can provide both day to day usability and weekend fun in such a competent, well rounded manner.Anyway I've been lurking for quite a while but I thought I'd take this chance to introduce myself here as I'm heading up to Rennsport on Saturday. It's going to be a long day as I'm flying up from Melbourne in the morning and heading back in the evening, but I couldn't miss what seems to be shaping up to be one of the best festivals of car porn in Australia. So if you see a lost looking, shaggy haired skinny bloke in his late 20s, that's probably me - say hello!
Niko Posted 28April, 2016 Report Share Posted 28April, 2016 Welcome AGM, hard to go past a good 928, and the 987 Box also a great choice.Enjoy Rensport, and good luck in the hunt.
ANF Posted 28April, 2016 Report Share Posted 28April, 2016 Welcome AGM, 928s are all the rage now that no one can afford 911s..... Boxster would be good also, but obviously I would lean towards the 928 Niko
AGM155 Posted 28April, 2016 Report Share Posted 28April, 2016 Thanks for the welcome guys - one day I'd love to have both 987 and 928 in my fleet, but weaning myself off Italian cars will probably be a slow process.
Andrea Posted 1May, 2016 Report Share Posted 1May, 2016 Hello Porsche enthusiasts! This is my first post, and to be honest, I am a fish out of water! But it is with sincere motivation and a big sense of hope that I am posting. Wishing that someone within this community of Porsche admirers might read my message and be able to help! So here goes! My partner and I are getting married .....stay with me guys, don't tune out just yet.... My husband to be is an avid classic car enthusiast, having owned and raced several sports cars over the years. Whilst he loves to build and race them, I tend to admire them from left of the steering wheel I know a happy husband makes for a happy wife and hopefully in our case a happy and long marriage....so.... I am on the hunt for a beautiful classic Porsche sports car that I can surprise my husband to be on our wedding day, as our hired chariot to and from our wedding ceremony. Thinking of something along the lines of an early (60's/70's) 911 F, 356 ....am I dreaming?? Unfortunately, there appears to be a huge gap in the market for the hire of vehicles in the 'classic sports' category. There are a plethora of imported muscle cars, vintage Rolls Royce, Limousines etc, but nothing that suits our vision for a stylish, classic sports car enthusiast wedding! This is where I hope this wonderful community of car owners can help. I would like to know if there was anyone within Melbourne, Victoria, that would consider a hire agreement where by we could loan the use of your car for a couple of hours? Of cause we would offer financial reimbursement for the loan, and would not expect to loan the car without the owner/drivers assistance (to drive for us, or ride with us). Alternatively, we would happily come to some other agreement that suited the car owner. Maybe a member knows someone else that could help and could put us in touch? I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and feedback! Regards,Andrea
