I like the Kodak yellow!! It was made me buy it.  Before I traded it with Rob for something later in orange.  the Kodak yellow is factory and rare.  The car is mint.  If he gets the 295, good luck to him.  We all need to make a living.  Rob's a great guy.

Interesting ^^ same orange creature that was there, when mine was there? ☺️

+ 1 on Rob.

I suspect there are 2 things going on here. First, Duttons claim to have a reach into other markets, like SE Asia. Second, there is a much anticipated change in the law which, if stories are correct, will come in from the beginning of next year, which will allow cars to be imported with a lot more ease.

It's interesting how Duttons told me just how undesirable UK cars were and how little they wree worth, offering me $150k less for my 964RS and then kindly sharing their valuation with every known Porsche specialist - "have you been offered the red RS which we value at x because it is a dodgy UK import". Having done that, they then called me back to see if I had considered their offer which they were sure was fair and what others would pay.......

OK, here goes.  I'm sure that there were lots of people talking to you about your car. As I'm in the market for great cars like yours, I got calls from quite a few people shopping it to me and most in fact telling that it may be able to be bought for the 150 less than it was perhaps worth ....

I may also therefore have been one of those who low balled you.  And you may have, for good reason, told me to - as is your style - politely but firmly to think again.  It was clearly a great example and there was clearly also a bidding war going on.  Some subterfuge no doubt on all fronts by everyone involved.  It happens.

And for the seller, makes it a roller coaster especially when the car has a strong history with you and loads of previous ownership enjoyment.

My Duttons experiences have been good.  I have sold to them.  It was my 95 RSCS.  Those who've read my other posts will know why I sold but in short, it was because I didn't enjoy the driving of it any longer as it was as raw as a newborns arse after an all day shitting fit.

And there was the small matter of the money that was on offer.  I knew what I wanted and what it was worth.  Yes, they tried what all business people do and threw in a low number to see if I bit.  I respect the effort.  I also know they sold the car soon after fro about 20% more.  Good work boys.  Leveraging your network to take a quick profit.  The way of the world.  That's what specialist high end dealers do.

I've also looked at other cars in there (a lot) and yes, some of the prices asked are in my view on the heavy side but you know, I have a choice.  Jump in and push the ball around and see if we can come to a number or otherwise, politely say that the non prescription stuff they're on must be good and where do I get some.  They take it well.  As they should.  its nothing personal either way.

I also just bought a car from them.  Its yellow.  I like yellow. I pick it up tomorrow. I know paid top $.  There are cars that are the "same" still on the market for 25-40% less than I paid.  I looked at them but Duttons had the best car, right history, great condition etc etc

So, I'm disappointed you feel you had a bad experience.  Mine have been good.  Depends on who's RayBan's you're looking through. And on your perception of value and price - as they are not the same thing.

that's the most comprehensive review of Duttons I've read. Interesting stuff. You must like yellow if you are buying at their rates ;)

I do like yellow.  Bought a 996 TT from Rob in it and that set me off.

Yep, solid $ but when I reflected, it ticked my boxes including the value  - not making more, they were built in the Motorsport department, the first video I saw of it was the Porsche promo with Rohrl caning it was one in yellow.

In the end, no purchase of a Porsche is a fully rational decision. Doesn't matter if it's 6000 or 600,000. They don't call us "enthusiasts" for nothing.

I know the guys at Duttons about as well as I do all of the others in town. As my wife will attest, I've probably bought a car from most of them over the last 20+ years!!

I'm therefore highly irrational!!!

So 9sies the Cayman engine IMS bearings after that engine number were rock solid?  Is that about Feb 2006?

Did the Cayman 3.4's suffer bore scouring issues at all?

I truly wish Autohaus would take that page down or at least edit out the errors to make it factual.  Severely compromises their credibility.

Not rock solid Peter, but failures are super rare. The Autohaus comment on the factory-changed grease seals (on the bearing for the '06 onwards lumps) is accurate, I believe. It was the quiet fix that Porsche deployed after all the noise in the Porsche community about the whole IMS issue. That had the effect of improving lubrication and cooling but It also makes it very costly if you want to add the IMS fix. My IMS is as it came from the factory. I'm a gambler!.

As for bore scoring, I'm not up to speed with that, although Hartech in the UK sell a low temp thermostat to avoid it. I know it happened on 986's, not so sure on the 987s.

Always willing to learn on this stuff, so what parts are Autohaus getting wrong?.

What color is your GT2?  Yes, the RS is now with some new friends.  My deal involved the Kodak 81 930 and a 73 Targa.

Saw a nice yellow thing at Cairns on Monday so I'll assume that's yours?  Very nice.  Brand new looking really.  Speed Yellow is THE best colour IMHO and I sat in the Kodac 930 (closely supervised by Zig) as I was captivated by it.  Another awesome Porsche yellow.

There is an unholy amount of whinging about Duttons in this thread...They're a car dealer who seek to make money from selling cars.  Buy low sell high.  Any big surprises there?  Don't like the buy price?  Sell privately or elsewhere.  Don't like the sell price?  Buy elsewhere.  Don't like the politics of a small niche market?  Go buy an HSV.

Sorry to drag the thread down to the level of talking about a Boxster :D but any thoughts on this... I like pretty much everything (S, interesting colour, manual, low k) but wonder if there's a lot to be said for holding out and finding a 3.4?

How cheap does a dealer need to buy a 996 at to seel for $28K!!?? Alternatively why would someone sell a 966 so cheap? Especially if it does have "FULL SERVICE HISTORY"?? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ottoway/cars-vans-utes/1998-porsche-911-carrera-carrera-5-speed-tiptronic-coupe/1110031720

I like them too, for me it is how the 996 was intended and anything else seems like a "knee jerk" reaction to try to "fix" it. Nothing wrong with it in my eyes :)

Only thing better would be a series 1 996 GT3 :D

Yes I have watched cars a few times too (5 y.o. :) )
