MFX Posted 13November, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 13November, 2016 Jeff, I don't know how you do it....that spider web of loom wires looks like a nightmare. Admire your patience & perseverance...It still looks like a spider web, but I at least labelled it pretty well when I removed it so I can hopefully put it all back together
MFX Posted 18November, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 18November, 2016 I spent this week tidying up more of the wiring and connecting up the heater fan. It doesn't feel like I got a lot done, but just getting all of the dash wiring sorted is a big step. OZ930 Posted 18November, 2016 Report Share Posted 18November, 2016 Re the washer bottle.....what are you like at plastic welding? Also, now that you are running bigger wheels, check the clearance from your tyre and the water bottle through full turning arc. LeeM Posted 18November, 2016 Report Share Posted 18November, 2016 Maybe this as a water bottle idea Jeff? A rush job the day before rego inspection because I couldn't get the standard ones to work. $22 from AutoPro or some shop like that, or hit up a wrecker for something else. Think this one was to suit a Magna or Commodore A bit out of level which annoys me, but it works. Can JUST get the spare out as it is, yet will probably relocate it to just ahead of the battery if there's no chance of water getting into the wiring
MFX Posted 18November, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 18November, 2016 Both very good suggestions. I have actually had another suggestion on youtube to just heat up the plastic and deform it. I think that may be you first port of call. Next would be plastic welding (if I break it) and if all else fails I will grab on of those like you have Lee
Raven Posted 18November, 2016 Report Share Posted 18November, 2016 like Lee said just fit it in the front trunk ,,,easy solution plenty of room
OZ930 Posted 18November, 2016 Report Share Posted 18November, 2016 The problemThis is what I did. Took a wedge out, removed and repositioned the filler neck. Easiest was to heat the plastic at the join edge and push together.and finished Russ and MFX
MFX Posted 19November, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 19November, 2016 The problemThis is what I did. Took a wedge out, removed and repositioned the filler neck. Easiest was to heat the plastic at the join edge and push together. and finished That looks great. I will keep that in mind. I didn't realise the plastic was so thick! That should make it less likely to break. I am used to old Nissan washer bottles made of the thinnest, most brittle plastic on earth One thing your photo did bring to my attention, which I never really thought of before now, is that I don't have the washer motor? Your tank is different to mine, as mine doesn't have to recess for the washer that yours does. I am wondering if mine was originally in the tank connected to the lid? Either way it looks like that is another thing I have to replace.
OZ930 Posted 19November, 2016 Report Share Posted 19November, 2016 It looks like a different tank to mine. You probably had a remote mounted pump. I can see that your washer bottle filler hose is going to give you grief too, the same reason I repositioned mine and used a longer pipe. A heater hose (or any hose) with a 45 to 90 degree bend is ideal if you can find one that is the correct diameter. I ended up using clear plastic hose. It's not a temp or pressure hose, so anything will do the job…..just don't tell the purists Whoops, I think I just did MFX and LeeM
MFX Posted 25November, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 25November, 2016 Well this week has been interesting. I thought I would add another challenge into the mix and try to learn how to sew. I bought myself an old industrial sewing machine and my first project was to make a headliner for the car, then install it. I am pretty happy with the results, particularly as I have never used a sewing machine before. SimonN Posted 25November, 2016 Report Share Posted 25November, 2016 2 things Jeff1. It's official. I hate you! Whatever happens, I mustn't let my wife find out about you. Nobody should have the time and energy to do a car build and house build at the same time. My reno has been going on years and I get so much grief from " 'er indoors"! How do you do it? I do now have some motivation to finish the house so I can then take on a car build, but finding the energy is another matter. Maybe I am getting old!2. So pleased you have taken on trimming. I look forward to seeing what else you do, because it is something I want to teach myself (after the house is finished!). How far are you going with this? What else are you going to trim?Keep up the great work.

It won't be perfect, but I can only blame myself. The only thing I plan on outsourcing is the machining of the engine, as the machines necessary are a bit too specialised for my garage . But the guys said they will show me how to use the machines and get me to do a couple of the parts myself.
SimonN Posted 25November, 2016 Report Share Posted 25November, 2016 You still haven't explained how you stretch time to fit everything in. 28 hour days? 8 day weeks? Do you ever sleep? Do you do all the work on the house yourself?

Do you do all the work on the house yourself?Yeah, I do all the work on the house myself too. Well correction, I have just had the plumbers in, and I got a brickie and concreter for the foundations. But the frame work I did with a mate and now everything else I will finish myself (eg, tiling, plastering, cornices, flooring, etc). The secret is that I am a firie, and we have a pretty good roster system, giving me plently of time off when everyone else is at work. LeeM Posted 25November, 2016 Report Share Posted 25November, 2016 I may also have ADHD There's no 'maybe' about it mate! Nice work with the headliner Keen to know more about the pedal box Jeff. What brand, modifications required etc
OZ930 Posted 26November, 2016 Report Share Posted 26November, 2016 (edited) Bit late, but you could have used liquid insulation tape for the headliner ends, much like plasti-dip.My Mum has a Bernina industrial sewing machine that she can no longer use and my Mrs just watched this vid so guess who wants the machine.....I don't know whether this is a good thing or she has an ulterior motive Edited 26November, 2016 by OZ930 spelling error MFX

What brand, modifications required etcI will have to go and look at it again for the brand, but it is an ebay special. I have already been contacted by a guy in the UK who had the same one. He said that the master cylinders were fine, but the brake pedal was too weak and bent straight away, so he strengthened it. I will do that to mine too and I have no idea what it will take to fit it as yet, but I will cover fitting it all in a video of course Bit late, but you could have used liquid insulation tape for the headliner ends, much like plasti-dip.My Mum has a Bernini industrial sewing machine that she can no longer use and my Mrs just watched this vid so guess who wants the machine.....I don't know whether this is a good thing or she has an ulterior motive Sounds like home made clothes out of old curtains at your house

Harvs11 Posted 26November, 2016 Report Share Posted 26November, 2016 Nice machine. Being able to sew is a very useful skill. And nothing girlie about it. I know a few trimmers thru work and they all have arms like gorillas from wrestling hides all day. And just quietly, being a young bloke who could sew, living in a share house with a few single girls occasionally came in very handy ?
