I'll see if this grows on my haha. ..... I also installed my new belts... original ones were frayed and faded so we got some fresh ones to stop me dying. LeeM Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 Could you remove one again and measure how thick the glass is please? Al Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 Could you remove one again and measure how thick the glass is please? I wanna make some plexiglass ones Nooooooo! Lol. Had enough of that task. It's all I could think about last night and this morning. "How can I make that bit sit perfect without upsetting the bit at the opposite end".. It sucks having OCD! LeeM Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 Biggest pain in the butt job I did on the 912 was fitting the seals to those windows. NEVER again! I'll use Sikaflex and stick plexiglass ones on without the bloody seals! :-) Al
Al Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 Bahaha! I understand. I should write my procedure down. It may help someone. I saw some dude on youtube take to the B piller thick seal edge with a bent flat head screwdriver to pry it out from the lip.. there's no need for that at all.Briefly:First remove the decorative outer trim. Then just lift and push the inner lip over the sheet metal edge slightly on the inside bottom row. Then with one arm on inside and one on the outside to secure it I then gave it a shove at the bottom from the inside and she starts popping out.For the install, well that's more complex but my method involves wiper sniper plastic line, a washing liquid mix for lube. First the decorative trim goes on BEFORE the window goes in. This is not exactly easy. Then insert the B piller edge first then slap it in the frame, then pull the inner lip over the inside edge by pulling the line.. Easier said than done and little alignments to watch along the way and hand slaps to jiggle it into the right spot.
LeeM Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 You also must drop the framed window on a newly painted rear guard after saying 'It'll be right, I won't scratch the paint' with soapy and WD40 soaked hands! Grrrrrrrrr

Hey Bersk, when you say "made" a banner... what do you mean? I want to add a sunblocking (black) banner to mine but not sure where to get one and get the right cut... the generic ones on fleabay seem all the wrong size. Okrasa Kid Posted 29December, 2016 Report Share Posted 29December, 2016 You don't need any more horsepower in that car Skid. This is where we are at.Currently the suspension set up is.............................. well not set up!. Car suffers from severe understeer then in a nano second the tail looses grip. The D runs a VW type one torsion bar up front with no torsion bars and VW shocks..........plan to install Konis.Rear end also has no torsion bars. Bill Devin dispensed with them and built his own system with coil overs. Also tyres are crap and I need to lower it ! 356 B brakes have been restored after a scare on the main straight at Sandown. From what I'm told by a few 356 registry members in the States running Devins set up properly they handle quit neutral. In historic s SCCA they run full house 1620cc motors putting out 160 -180 hp .......bugger all torque but hey you are only hauling 1150 LBs.No wonder Porsche ordered their dealer in the U.S. to stop selling 356 industrial motors to Bill Devin.Once converted to Super 90 spec they were running at the front of the pack

Philbee Posted 30December, 2016 Report Share Posted 30December, 2016 @Bersk... so i know, whats the distance or width the banner should be as you measure down from the top of the windscreen... 150mm at the centre looks about right. What's your recommendation? or is there a standard width the banner should be? I've noticed the generic ones on ebay are huge and the autografik site @LeeM recommended doesn't have specific dimensions listed...

I've noticed the generic ones on ebay are huge and the autografik site @LeeM recommended doesn't have specific dimensions listed... I went 150... as you said it feels and looks right on the money.... My Recaro's sit pretty low so the extra glare I deal with eliminated with a banner. I make mine straight and then let it roll over the curve in the glass by itself.... it almost curves down once on but It looks odd if you curve the banner before its on. The Porsche text is seperate and I ended up putting a 5deg curve in it to keep it reading straight once on. Philbee
Airhead Posted 2January, 2017 Report Share Posted 2January, 2017 Over the last couple of days I went to work on the 911 to spruce it up a bit. I've only washed it since getting it in Feb. So, out came the masking tape and newspaper to mask up the rubbers etc and got to work with the clay bar, then and fired up the buffer. First a heavy cut, then a medium cut and polish then a good coat of Mothers wax. Finished off with a soft fluff buff. Did one panel at a time and didn't rush it. Spent about 10 hours on it so far and still one rear guard and engine lid to do. And to think I used to do this years ago for $40 - 60 a time. Mike-S Posted 2January, 2017 Report Share Posted 2January, 2017 That looks brilliant. I need to do that with mine, 25 years without a polish haven't done it any favoursThink I'll pay a man though, I don't have the knowledge or equipment to do it properly.
