Haha... was thinking of adding another and cornering the C4S market mate... then we can set the prices! BWahahahah!!! 👿

Actually seriously now, I had an offer on mine and wanted to see where the market was at. Needless to say I spoke to the owner (who was a gentleman) and the grey car is booked in for a PPI and half sold. He has had keen interest on it now. Should go shortly.

cheers,

Dave.

Love the way you think Dave!! .. 😈

You’re like a magnet for offers ... maybe I should get mine out more often ... I have no interest in selling it but I’d love an offer too! .. 😢 😅

Cars have been selling like there’s no tomorrow, both new and used.

100% been quantified.  Can't get enough new cars into the country so used car prices are increasing.

I do wonder how disconnected Porsches are from that metric though given they are a niche product for lack of a better word.

Can’t really comment on new cars, but the uptake on used ones is quite clear ... selling, selling, selling.

There's been two big factors that's pushed up used car prices.

1. There was a slump before COVID in new car sales, meaning the used supply most of us plebs rely on was decreased.

2. Since COVID worldwide manufacture of new cars has been hit, reducing supply and increasing lead times.

There's also been an aversion to public transport during COVID era which has caused more to buy cars for commuting.  Sadly, making roads more clogged, as if they weren't clogged enough already.

I wonder how pissweak the trade prices are now.  I bought a car in September 2019 and they offered me $4000 for the trade.  I sold it privately for $9000 within a week.

Maybe Manheim's is offering decent coin now too?

Surprised this one didn't get a mention before or after sale, given the factory GT3 option.   Setting a reasonable benchmark for a .1 C2 at $65k:

Gone when I went to have a look at the advert at 8.30pm

Yep have to agree Ronnie. Spoke to two manual 997.1 C2S  sellers today that both sold last week in the $100-110k price point both had multiple interest and sold quickly out of NSW into Vic during lock down. Suggestion was FSH and ability to call the specialist/PC workshop to validate history of cars did the deal. Looks like it's a sellers market for the right P cars at the moment, who wants my SC🤣😂👍

No details or pics in their ad right now but based on the km (99,222 km) and price ($54,880) this might be worth a look... https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1999-porsche-911-carrera-996-manual/OAG-AD-19221224

Yep! :) Was definitely worth a look...

I am now the proud owner of my first Porsche. It drives and handles really really well, and a very clean car! Super happy with my purchase, finally picked it up today!

Is it creepy that I was able to recognise that from my pre-COVID commute?  That is the place with the skinny parking lot on Pacific Hwy near Chatswood right?

Nice pick up Andrew. Looks great, although I would say that, it’s almost identical to mine! 99 with clear front lenses in ocean blue metallic... metropol blue interior? Is yours cable or e-throttle?

You’re going to love it, such an underrated 911. A decent exhaust and the orange cap intake mod transforms the driving experience.

Interesting Porsche sticker placement. Hiding a stone chip?

Exactly. Used to be a Subaru dealer which closed a while back, and currently housing Lexus of Chatswood while they are rebuilding their site across the road. Alex, and the team there were great to deal with, and would definitely visit them first if I was buying a Lexus!

Thank you!

No idea whether cable or e-throttle. I had assumed that all 996s were still cable.

The first list of "mods" is getting a proper service, including replacing serpentine belt and pulleys, probably IMS (still trying to get confirmation whether it has been done, but most likely not) and engine mounts. Next up will be bushes and suspension and discs/ pads (as they are worn), and a new set of tyres. Currently mis-matching front/ rears. It is a 20 year old car, so was expecting a few little bits and pieces...

As for the Porsche sticker, hadn't seen it prior till a friend pointed it out, and then you can't un-see it! It will need to come off. Not sure I want to know what is under it though... 🙄

Has been a 6 month process. Originally looked at a Cayman 987, but decided if I was to stay with a 2 seater, it would be a new Lotus Elise 220. (My old S1 is in Germany, didn't bring it back over due to it being a LHD).

Having a back seat would make it possible to occasionally transport my wife AND my young daughter at the same time, which would increase the number of times I could drive it, so I decided to look at a 911. Recommendations from a friend and the price pointed me towards the 996s. I love the fact that the 996 feels compact, where I have been told the newer ones, although physically close to the same size, feel as if the corners are further away. Had originally wanted a 3.6/ 996.2, but wasn't sure if I would even like it, so really didn't want to start test driving cars with private people.

When this one came up in Sydney at a local dealer, grabbed the opportunity and went for a drive. Was clear to me after about 30 seconds that I would be buying it. (Probably also to the dealer :) ) Even though this wasn't a .2, drove really well, price is IMHO good and was a clean car. Really like it.

I was also super impressed how well this handled, with old suspension and the rest! Simply love the car!

As for "whats next", other than the service stuff as above, I may splurge on the PCCM +, yes overpriced, but would at least look the part, and then looking for a Porsche driver training (first time with rear engine car) and then the occasional track days. Once this Covid thing blows over hope to sign up for one of the "Targa Tours"....

PPS: Yes, hadn't seen the "fridge magnet" prior. Will find out in the next couple of days when I trust myself enough to look behind the sticker....

Good job Andrew, welcome.

Before splurging the big bucks on the PCCM+, if you're not fussed about the navigation part, have a look at the Continental head unit.  My primary need was handsfree phone, so I installed one of these in my 996.1 GT3.  Looks the part (orange display), is basically plug and play, and works very well

I was hoping you’d say pull it off .. enjoy the destickering

IMO (not worth a whole lot)  throw some money down on improving the susp/steering if a little tired , gundo/fister yourself and install a good car seat for the kiddie ... then take the family for a drive ...

what’s PCCM?

She is 9 so still fits nicely in the back (so no extra expense!), those seats are just like kiddie seats 😄

then noise cancelling headphones for her,  once appropriate  exhaust and CAI fitted ...

personally, do like the look of the Conti unit as fitted by @TwoHeadsTas

re:PCCM just having a little tug sir. Enjoy the drives..

p.s try keep a distance from @Dreamr and his hairy barrel chested cohort, @edgy a  far more discerning choice for 996 gents
