Probably thought that if it's priced a little lower than the grey one that's been sitting on the market for the last 5 months, it'll look cheap.

As much as I'd love to see them climb in value, just don't think thats happened yet to that price ... although all he needs is 1 buyer and stranger things have happened ..

Not sure why the grey one is hanging around. Looks like a good example to be honest. Won’t be far off the money.

I get what you are saying but pricing must be off ... I didn't look at it as I felt it was too hard to try and explain how far off the pricing of the others he is. I paid nowhere near his ask, same as most of the recent buyers in the past few months.

There have been 6 or 7 C4S examples sold around this car. All of them were advertised for a fraction of the time this has been on the market. I’ve had mine for about 3 months, and this was for sale before mine.

Its a nice colour ... it has low k’s and a sought after model ... it has to be price.

We are entitled to ask whatever we want for our cars / stuff just as buyers are entitled not to buy them. Unfortunately I think this grey one is a classic example of not meeting the market.

Hopefully it won’t be long before they are a $100k car ...  just not yet. 😢

It’s hard to tell as a few sat then went quickly last month in the mid $70’s. Maybe that drove a few of the current crop to try and establish a premium, hard to tell. I’m more interested in the C4S atm but not sure we are ready to pay $90k. I knocked back a low k 997.1 manual C2S 2 weeks ago for $95k . Maybe I should have said yes.

This manual cab just hit at the top of the cab market at $89k. Looks nice but reading into it has an engine swap due to ims and although original motor is available it’s for additional money. Not sure I get why you would pay the premium he is asking with or without the old motor. Makes those manual coupes look even better.

When I was looking, I test drove a 997 C4S ... it was in immaculate condition, had extremely low k’s and would have been right at home in my garage.

For me ... it lacked the old school feel. It was smooth, fast but too refined for me. We had the wife’s car for the touch of luxury.

The 996, for me, bridges the gap between the old and the new ... far more modern than the SC, air that works well but still that touch of old school rawness ...

You are on the right track wanting a 996 C4S ... The question you need to ask yourself is ... are there any mid $70k cars left? ... I’m not thinking so.

I don’t see them falling in price and I know when the frenzy happened a few months ago, the prices being paid went higher and higher ...

There hasn’t been a good supply of them for a few months now, so how long do you wait? ... we’ve all seen what happened with the AC cars ...

Thing is only a couple years back these were regularly in the 90’s and asking over a hundred. Most likely on the depreciation curve from being a $250k car (new) just over a decade before. However with all things 911, I have found that sought after models just end up going back up.

I have mine sold in the 90’s with a phone call (off market) at this point. I’m still holding off. Albeit mine has all orig running gear, under 58kms and in a desired combo (man/lapis). However I see these getting back up there again, as quite frankly having driven many other sports cars of the era, these are incredible BFYB and a 911 to boot.

Time will tell I suppose.

Dave.

C2... Maybe forever?

Someone else on here was mentioning "the turning point" that the 996.1 is.  I think they're right.  It will be a "classic" one day.  It is the car that saved them from bankruptcy depending on who you listen to.

This is just about the perfect analogy of a 996 👍

Exactly how I described it after driving the first one. It felt like a fast, really well sorted SC...and a helluva lot more comfortable...and air conditioning 😁👍

you guys are so cute and Unabashedly 996 gushy ... 😊

my SC  never threw me sideways down a road and saw me reverse parking (magnum Pi style) in front of unsuspecting staycationers, doing a late checkout,  nor my 912 or 71t etc ...

must surely be more like a cortisol wracked 964/993 ? 🤷🏻‍♀️☝️

Nor has any 911 or other p car Owned or driven on road jangled and clanked, like that machismo large gutted guy with too much wrist gold at the insufferable Yearly Chrissy bbq. Or bellowed so gutturally and. So obnoxiously announced its comings  and goings throughout the burbs  resulting in Cusses curses and ribald unbridled guffaws

yep I’m liking the 996 ownership drive experience , though would and am looking forward to getting the same joys and jollies from an earlier car when/ if a changeover Occurs

talk on sirs

p.s if anyone has an interesting centre exhaust option to suit 2002.2, they are parting ways with please advise

^ I think I Concur Michel..........I really need to slow down when reading your posts

With near 100hp difference when comparing a G to the 996, the acceleration is always going to be very different.  I've always thought the 3.2 was a good balance between performance driving without trying to kill me, I'll be treating the 996 with due respect when we finally get a chance for real driving after lockdown.

I have some mufflers you can do the fister / gundo hack and keep your original ones intact for 'ron.  I was going to do this for my 996.2C2, but ended up getting the GT3, so mufflers are just sitting there (albeit in Tassie)...

Thx for the kind offer .. If I could post a realistic sound clip you’d note that I’m already felched to the max ... edit fistered😊

it’s  Currently  a bi modal set up . Quiet mode is through two cargraphic side mufflers to centre  exit . In munted mode . Pretty much straight out ala s/cup.

@LeeM and other SA lads could probably better describe the car whilst in drive by mode

Talk to @dan_189 at dparts.com.au.  I'm sure he could fix you up very nicely with something🙂

Inspected it as it was nearby. UK import in 2018, felt it spent way too long there. Bodywork and engine looked okay, but opening the frunk and the boot showed a lot of dirt. The underside looked like a car that's spent too long on salt covered roads. Tyres looked old, but owner claimed their were new. One of the wheels had damage, wasn't sure if it needs urgent fix. Interior was okay, but the back of the seats were badly scratched up.

The owner has gotten it serviced at a non Porsche specialist, whom also fixed IMS and new clutch.

Felt $50K is still a bit overpriced for the condition of the car, given some pretty clean examples of 996 have recently sold for low 60s.

Looking at the plastic trim around front wipers (almost white) and bottom rear window corner rubber trim lifting - points to exposure to long harsh outdoor climate.

Still seems reasonable value but you pay for what you get I’d imagine.

Dave.
