Coronavirus - what do you think?

The $25K and the 40% are the same benefit - actually is 50% unless changed from initial announcement.  Final detail still to be worked out obviously, but initial announcement indicated that the amount was to be a 50% refund of PAYGW up to the $25k cap.  Although it would make sense to show this as a rebate or reduction of the PAYGW payable on the BAS, it appears this is to be a separate refund a week or so later.  - TAX FREE

Also 50% subsidy of apprentice wages up to $7000/apprentice for 9 mths from 1/1/20, provided business has < 20FTE

+ additional write offs for equipment purchases

Could you post a link in regards to this please I am interested to know more  ..............

Yep, good summary, but I'm not convinced there is an additional 50% "investment incentive" for purchasing equipment > $150k.  Need to wait for the legislation, but my reading of the Treasury release indicated it was 50% up front, and then existing depreciation rules apply to the balance, but a number of releases I've seen from the Big 4 say the same as RSMBC, so quite possibly I'm interpreting the release wrong - and would be glad to proven so 🙂

Agree with this - my interpretation is that it's still a bring forward of depreciation and not an additional 50%.  Like you I'd be very happy to be proven wrong!

We are waiting for legislation to be drafted/discussed prior to advising clients.

Capped at $25k - so not even 1/3 of a week of payroll for my business.

I see your one third and I raise you, ~1/6 here.......😬

$25k does nothing.  We’re medium sized, lots of business our size and larger than will see no benefit and will have to take matters into their own hands.  Just wish the government would provide some sort of a plan.  If this, then this......right now we have no clue.  Closing down or not.  If so roughly when, how long.  I get it’s challenging but they must have a broad plan of attack based of certain triggers,  tell us so we can plan.  We won’t hold you to it.  It’s a bloody vacuum of political correctness and “don’t panic” bullshit meanwhile things grind to a halt due to community angst.

sent a guy home Monday who exhibited headache and running nose.  Next day he was fine but we say he needs to get medical clearance to return.  The rest of the team flapping about “oh my god he’s got it”.  He tries to get tested but because he hasn’t been OS and hasn’t come into contact with a Covid19 case they won’t test him.  So no way to get cleared so he can never return.  How did we end up in this fucked up place.....senior guy with a cold and he’s on the bench.

Its about what we spend on pens and post-its a year, so free stationary I guess?

Testing is now restricted to anyone with symptoms. If he doesn't have symptoms, and hasn't been overseas I see no reason why he can't return to work. Doctors cannot provide a medical certificate for a condition that doesn't exist.

The 'when in doubt' policy is 14 days self isolation.

Oh, this is an infographic that may be helpful for business owners in the coming months:

i'm not an accountant, and I'm sure many of you will understand this more, but the next BAS return will have a 40% reduction automatically taken off the amoutn needing to be paid to the ATO in the statement.

Only some states! Us Queenslanders are allowed to defer the bas payment, but have to pay it back in full...

Tell me . What is your plan ?

Probably go to Kyms place a lot and drink

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but with some banks potentially allowing their members to put their mortgage payments on hold, would that mean that you're still charged interest as per normal (as I think it would be) to add a shed load of interest to what is owed now, or is that frozen too?

He has some but not all symptoms, feeling better but still there.  He can’t get tested.  If he sits it out for 14 days and symptoms are gone then he will return I guess.  But that doesn’t mean he is not positive or that he is virus free.  Hard to separate fact from social media assumptions.

We had one of our production employees visit the doctor too, to try to get a clearance to come to work, as we're pretty much in lockdown.  As the supplier of a crucial aluminium smelting component  to Bell Bay Aluminium (part of the Rio Group) they are rather keen on us putting into place appropriate protections.  Trouble was the doctor wasn't keen on giving such a certificate, but they wouldn't test for CV as he wasn't in one of the at risk groups.

My nephew is a doctor at another practice who, when they are testing for cold / flue etc, also tick the CV test for CV box - apparently there is a Queensland Pathology lab that will do this (believe it may be QML Laboratories???)

Just watching American news.

Health care professionals are REUSING PROTECTION EQUIPMENT or don't have it at all. Staff are also self isolating at home from their families in makeshift garages etc. They don't have enough ICU beds.

We really need to be very careful not to have unnecessary contact to slow this down as Australian medical system are also underprepared.

I'll just add, my ex had a 50th bday this week. A friend from the aged care sector visited then showed symptoms of flu the next day. Now my ex has these symptoms. The friend has of course self isolated from the work place. Covid 19? We don't know.

Getting a bit sick of the media chaos and speculation so I’ve decided no more posts from me here.  Need to think about something else for a while.

back to cars, here’s what Harris & Co think, basically a market bloodbath.  But even if that happens not sure I’d be keen to ponce about in a cheap GT3 RS as society implodes and people die.......

over and out, stay safe out there

I went to the shops this morning as part of my doomsday prepping activities and it's crazy, still can't get poo tickets. People are rude and pushy and don't have much in the way of manners. It's very sad to see people acting this way in this country right now when we should all be helping each other, it seems to be every man for himself unfortunately.

On another note my Uncle and his wife are on the Norwegian Jewel looking for a port and her brother is on the Roald Amundsen, thought i would share a couple of interesting insights as to what they are going through at the moment, beats me why they even left the country. These are part of some emails that were sent to us.

This is from the Roald Amundsen,
Well we have had the adventure of a lifetime with Chile, Antartica and the Falkland Islands. Today we arrived in Punta Arenas, Chile with riots, tear gas and an angry population blaming foreigners for bringing the virus into the country and an uneasy military worried about Socialists seizing power. Also overnight two small ships off loaded some passengers illegally which upset the authorities here. The government have told us to leave the country and closed the border to all foreigners, we are waiting to be refuelled and then leave.  No country in South America will now take us, we are also flying the yellow flag indicating that we are disease free. We also have over 125 medical experts being high ranking doctors, surgeons and professors on a medical conference, they often start at 8 am with evening lectures and presentations. They are gloomy about the consequences of this virus.

Anyway as no country will take us we are off to the Falkland Islands which is part of England and Norway is very close to England in all aspects. The Captain will then ask for assistance from the military commander in repatriation of all passengers being mainly Australians, English and Americans. The worst case scenario is that we will be refuelled and sent off. Sounds exciting they have plenty of Alaskan crab and Gin and Tonic on board to keep us going, down side is all news is American on the TV.
This is from the Norwegian Jewel,

Well another day and no final destination!
Captain announced last night that Fiji has closed its borders! Now we have heard that Australia has also stopped cruise ships for 30 days.Ship is now heading towards America Samoa, we need fuel so will need to stop somewhere, apparently countries can’t refuse ships to refuel under maritime news. Captain will make announcement this morning. I just spoke to a man who has just spoken to his son in Baltimore and his son said that on the news there it stated that Norwegian Jewel heading to Hawaii!
I got up this morning at 4.00am to use ships phone to cancel New Zealand flights after waiting for 30 minutes got to talk to the operator but she couldn’t hear me! Can’t cancel on line and if don’t cancel loose everything.
There is a lot of stress and tears on board, last night I went to a meeting that was called unofficially by an Australian who has already had several meetings. This guy wants us all to go to the captain, the media and message politicians to take our ship or rescue the Australians on board, lots of arguing and shouting and blaming the cruise company. Think this is called Mutiny! We are being fed, have entertainment so it’s not a disaster, yes wish we were home but can’t change things. Dennis has medication for 5 weeks and I’m okay and we have toilet paper at this stage! We have heard about the self isolation on return but I presume that we will have to inform the hotel and hope they let us book! Lots of things to work out. Really miss having unlimited internet! Internet is very expensive and very spasmodic.

Talk is now that we won’t be able to dock at Honolulu, will just fuel up there and go on to Miami which is Norwegian Cruise lines home base. Miami is about 15 days sailing away!
Captain is not saying anything at this time. We are given 60 minutes a day free internet but it is very slow and takes ages to get through.
Entertainment at night has been brilliant, we have a well known concert pianist on board, members of Cirqe de sole plus others. The best entertainer has been the winner from America’s Got Talent, she is an African American, she has the most amazing voice and the concert was world class. Brilliant.
Lovely having a balcony, a bit humid at the moment and very hot. The two swimming pools are a good size and I have enjoyed sitting in the spa early morning watching the waves!
Seems to be enough food which has been very good, there is a choice of 7 restaurants which are complimentary and 5 specialty ones which you pay a small fee for. It’s great having tea and coffee making facilities in the cabins, love sitting on the balcony with a cup of tea reading a book. The Europeans and South Americans love the sun, they are roasting themselves all day every day, some of the more chubby ones look like pigs on spits as they turn and roast themselves.
We have all been offered a full refund or 150% credit towards the next cruise which is valid for two years, a lot of people want more which I think is ridiculous.
Anyway off for a drink and listen to some music!

That's the problem with people wanting more and more. It's not the cruise lines fault theres a virus, so why not just be grateful and accept accept the refund etc and say thank you?

I too am over it all and the ridiculous restrictions on public venue attendance...and no bloody motorsport! 😡

My birthday present every year is a paddock pass for World Superbikes. Because of the cancellation of the racing, WorldSBK is showing some of the greatest Superbike races from over the last 30 years or so.

That's what I'm doing - trying to get away from the mass media hysteria for a while and watch Foggarty, Slight, Bayliss, Gobert, Bostrom etc, etc. in some of those epic races of a few years ago.

Try logging on to   www.worldsbk.com  and see if its available free.

Might just do that. Goodwood revivals and Members meetings sound like a good idea 👍

Funny stories!  Though may suggest if you've left the doomsday prepping to now you're a bit late maybe :)

I’m not sure if I should just lay low and try to avoid infection or just look it straight in the eye and go out all guns blazing, sideways in a new GT3.

If not now when? The end of the world is fast approaching so I’m thinking a trip to the local dealer is the best medicine.

Fuk it. I might wait until the end of next week though...........
