MARTY Posted 6March, 2018 Report Share Posted 6March, 2018 I think in general people are just trying it on with prices not thinking that the car they are pricing against has been sat on carsales for months.It seems everyone is trying to push the ceiling on prices its just a case of being realistic with prices and things will sell. My guess at this stage is $100-$115 for a C4 and $120-$135 for a C2 (Aus delivered, similar k's). The thought of trading mine in for a C2 has been on my mind but the idea of undoing the last 3.5 years of upgrades, fixes, tidying up and having to start it all over again quickly squashes that. Besides, I've never driven a C2 so I don't know what I am missing out on. The grey one with BBS LM's and KWV3's being a good example. Think that went for close to 90K in the end. Trading up? Hmm, depends how much emotional investment you make in your car. As you say, you've spent three and a half years making it your interpretation of the 964 and getting it to where you're happy. Would a C2 feel better? Like you I've not driven one to be able to make the comparison. That said, I've never carved through a turn and found myself thinking, "if only i was in a C2, that would have been so much better." But then I'm yet to tick over 12 months of ownership so maybe I'm still in the honeymoon period. Either way, $145 plus for a C2 starts putting it in the company of some other pretty compelling 911s and, as much as the 964 is my favourite platform, at close to $150K the consideration set would have to widen... Every night I find time to pop into the garage to say a little hello. There's various emotive reasons for the choices people make. For me the 964 was the current shape when my interest in the brand was really switched on so it's always been the one. That said, I think you're right. i think this current crop of cars for sale have pushed the envelope and have probably gone past the tipping point of what most people are willing to spend on a 30 year old 964. Depends how many people out there who willing to pay this kind of money to have one right? hugh Posted 7March, 2018 Report Share Posted 7March, 2018 Interestingly @DJM has owned a 964 C2 and also a 996 GT2, but knowing Doug he is also a very rational man and makes well thought out decisions.............maybe that's why he now has a GT4? Having owned a 964 C2 & 996 GT3 at the same time they both offer a very different proposition and perspective. My head says GT3 but my heart honestly really misses my 964, it was just a great all rounder and enjoyable car. GT3 is such a special car but I do feel like I'm rolling the dice every time I get behind the wheel. But then there is the noise and and and............. Cmon guys I was bored trying to spice things up. hugh, I know what you mean. GT2 take your pick, jail or death. Exciting but glad to survive 2 years and move on. GT4 , epic sound, epic balance, lovely to sit in and drive but hard to really use properly. So I don't use it much. I'm not a car storage guy, if I'm not driving, I'm wondering ? 964 - First Porsche I owned and I was left a little....well. ....underwhelmed. Felt quite heavy and not enough poke for my liking. But it was tiny and classic which I liked. I remember a red one a Porsche Club member sold that was track prepped C2, lightened, good suspension and motor breathed on. As it happened I actually ran into the guy who owned and built it (Frank Moscato I think) at the Porsche drive day I did last year and he said that was a cracker car that he sold below cost. That's probably the one that got away. Dare I say it I've contemplated selling GT4 recently for what I paid. PCM offered to buy back but with GST and on roads deducted, can't justify it. And can't be arsed selling privately. Anyway, I'll bury that comment way down here in the 964 thread ? I still lust for something old, dirty and noisy (car not woman). I love Hugh's blue longhood. That would do. But given $50k seems a sensible amount to punt on a beast, I find myself ogling things like this.
