Whats for sale (in Australia ) and interesting Thread

Recommended Posts

I'll see your $115k and raise you $14,900 ...

saw this one the other week. Beautiful. A quality build. Originally a ZAG build but then greatly improved. From what I can tell ZAG do a good job but more of the budget end of the spectrum. It is very unlikely you could now build (including donor) either this or the blue car for this kind of money unless I guess your had the skills to do it yourself and had the free time.

But guys really how do you justify the 115?  Has anyone been through this build process ?

There are a few on the forum building similar cars at present and they will confirm that you would not build a steel wide bodied car for that cost in the current market.

Another problem with these ridiculous values is the 2nd hand parts of old cars are climbing accordingly. That poses a problem for all of us.

I'm sure that blue ZAG ST replica was for sale last year for $70K or so.

Love the old school sales tactic to try and invoke panic dealing - the 968CS listed originally at $57k, then after a week or so reduced it to $55k.  Now another week and a half later has re-edited back to $57k.  One can only assume to generate the prospective buyer panic - to quickly go back and offer he $55k he was really after all along?

If it had back seats I would definitely be interested

The South Australian Guards Red 4 Seat CS was a bargain at $38k I guess? ^^

Very nice looking....3.6 conversion, wide body, longhood in an mid-year body.

It's a big call to spend the biscuits but I think it's a pretty fair statement to say 'you can't build it for less'.

awesome machine and agree you couldn't built it for $120k of an Aus spec body.

My only question is why wouldn't you go a G50 box if you went to all the trouble of 3.6 out of a 964?

Mark is a competitor in the PCNSW sprint events with that 968 CS for an almost stock engine that thing is incredible well sorted. From memory he may have done a few 1:47's in that car at SMP.  As far as pricing goes i think its a bargain, lots of tasty aftermarket parts and its a 2 seater. Just for reference, if anyone is going to buy one of these then the 2 seater with the hardback Recaro's are the rare versions, less of them and in reality the 4 seater CS are a stock 968 with the CS badge. Sure some of them came with sunroof delete and no radio but the true CS comes with nothing, no electric windows, no electric boot opener and no back seats. A real track car for the street.  I know its often said, but the capability of the 968, in particular the CS on the track is astonishing for a stock car.

Regards

Sean

Well. Justification is difficult and very subjective.

If you have a long-hood of any description, you are lucky. If you bought it 5-10 years ago, you were lucky(and possibly clever).

To build a car costs alot of money. Some of us can and do get our hands dirty, scour the internet for parts and learn what needs to be done. Then we do it. Maybe 3 times to get it right.

Mostly, lets just say, 60-70% of enthusiast owners entrust the work to specialists. The hourly cost of said work is expensive.

The parts cost is expensive. Life is expensive though kids. A nice set of SSI exhaust manifolds is the same as the power bill you receive in your inbox quarterly.....

Here's the reality. a rebuilt luft-kuhlt motor (done properly) costs 15k +. Same for a Trans-axle done properly.(Old mate down the local will quote 8k and it will end up being 15 at the end of it)

Then there's your paint. try getting a paint shop to commit to a resto on a 30+ year old car. If they do, they will want Cash up front. Once the paint comes off, the tears start to fall. A bit like that Boom Crash opera song "Onion Skin".

And then, even then, do they/can they/will they do it right? If they do and you know it, don't haggle just pay the bill.

So yes, if you want a Long-hood, then it is justified because it costs more to do it. ( not with standing owners getting upset with specialists and the inevitable argument and owner removes car and takes elsewhere and, sigh, starts again.)

This is why Porsche Classic charge EUR 95 per hour. You get the job done, once, correctly.

and as a final comment. "They Don't make them anymore"

Un-like houses.

Wish there was a database for final car sales like there is for property in RP Data. The disparity between asking price and deal done price in property often surprises, would 911 asking prices vs realised value be any different?

I've been watching this car, if it was cheaper I'd have a look. Seems like a nice car. I don't mind Targa's

Whilst on the PCNSW site I noticed this: http://www.pcnsw.com.au/PorscheClubs/pc_nsw/pc_main.nsf/web/C34DA0DD1F358CA8C1257E0B0001F748#pagetop

Some people might turn targa for it?

I inquired about this car more than 3 weeks ago it's sold - the owner has not removed the ad.
