Whats for sale (in Australia ) and interesting Thread

Recommended Posts

$120k currently buys either a low km mint MY11 987 Cayman R or Boxster Spyder. Are these getting cheaper or is this where they'll sit for a while now? Cayman R is meant to be a great drive and given Porsche's focus on Cayman performance variants now (GTS, GT4), the R was the first one, so...fun drivers car and future collectable?

Chris Harris on 987.2 Spyder:

http://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-spottedykywt/you-know-you-want-to-porsche-boxster-spyder/27025

That article was published in Jan 2013.

These are now trading in the UK for mid 40's. Some desirably specified ones as high at 50k.

There's your answer. ;)

I was always a fan of the 911 and I was ready to buy one when I first really noticed the Cayman. After watching review after review, it was a no brainer. I have also noticed that even scince the start of the year the prices have actually climbed a bit. At the beginning of the year there were regularly S manuals at around the 50k mark. Now they are generally closer to the 60k mark. I think after the announcement of the GT4 more people are concious of them.

I only owned one, but a mate had one at the same time whilst we lived in Switzerland for a few years. Didn't hate it at all, loads of fun especially on icy roads, but cost an absolute bomb to keep both on the road even compared to Porsche costs, and then the rust issues begun... But I really love the understated, muscular design (Marcello Gandini got it right). And if I'm being completely honest I do browse the older ones on carsales from time to time...

As always, find an honest independent specialist to do what you can't!

Parts availability seems to be okay these days. Maybe because they all rusted away. Luckily mine appears to be rust free. Anyway it is doubtful I'll own it long. I have too much going on.

>"Selling to buy a less expensive 911 for fun and a muscle car and fibreglass V-drive 20ft leisure boat, so may consider exchange on another Porsche 911, 930, 964."

Sounds like someone has seen their Porsche turn from a toy into a bag of cash in the driveway.  It happens.  I love how specific he is on what type of boat.  While 'muscle car' could mean anything, it's going to be a 20 ft v-drive for the boat.

Problem is, for $130k, he's not going to get much change for a 964 or 930 left over for the muscle car and boat.

There is a 356 for sale on gumtree all be it plastic. Needs lots of TLC

1956 Porsche 356

$5,000.00 Negotiable
393 Bakers Road, Byangum NSW 2484
Watch

There was a time I considered a replica 356 a viable option, but VW engine does not really do it for me . Now if you could sorce a cheap 2.7 and build a decent chassis it could be nice, but it would be an expensive prospect . So is it worth it ?

$130k could be right for a run down non matching numbers car. A 72 T, restored, went for $200k recently at auction in USA.

The Shannons car

Yep , 3 months ago "Early rubber-bumper cars have long been regarded the bargains of the 911 family and still represent excellent value for money,"

Not at 110k (with 20k profit ) they don't! But if you're prairie doggin' for a G series,  you might gopher it.

is it worth it? A first Q is can you get shortened pans registered these days. Likely answer is unlikely or at some cost to rework what has been done and engineeering $$$. its a pile of incomplete glass of unknown quality . Cal care to comment 20-30-40k ++ to make this driveable?

yet a roof on it though..

You can't get it registered now, no. The body it all wrong. The mould appears to have been taken from a 356C, but then the bonnet is all wrong in shape. Wouldn't like to put a figure on it, but it's not going to look anything like a Speedster when finished anyhow.

When I first started looking back in the dim dark days of 2012 an early middie car was a $35,000-40,000 proposition - if it was nice.  How times have changed.  He may not get $100k but to even be able to ask it with a straight face... well

Whoever buys it will be "the guy who..." Then again , I read today there are 226,000 Australians with over $1mill in liquid assets so for thousands , this is peanuts.
