It would be worth more if it was a 996 though.

Maybe we could resto mod it, cut those ugly round lights out and replace with a set of lovely fried eggs.

runny yolk.

Are you suggesting we back date it.... imagine the irony, actually I would do it just to piss people off.

Good spec 997 CS with low km's I think he is close to the mark on his ask... I cant understand why the 997's are not getting the $$ at the moment.

I like the car, nice guy, good honest seller, was ex Prez of WA Porsche Club, so it has been well cared for...No offence though, I just can't hack silver on a GT car, bit too plain for me and couldn't think of parting with $200k+ for something I would probably instantly wrap.

The original 2.7RS is worth more than any of the newer RS; the 964 and 993 RS aren't exactly cheap either. The 996 GT3/RS is the first of the "modern" GT cars so it's reasonable to argue that a value should be placed on this over the more tech-heavy cars.

This is my completely unbiased opinion as a 996 GT3 owner 🤔

Kind of relevant to this topic...what is the consensus on servicing a 996 GT3 at a respected indy as opposed to a Porsche dealer in regards to future sale? I’ve never given two shits personally but I’ve just bought a car that has only Porsche stamps in the book (read: not exclusive serviced by Porsche, but only Porsche for the stamped services) so I figured the question is worth asking. In my own view I’ve half heartedly decided independent a) frankly because I can get a better service (more stuff) done for less and b) I have an existing relationship with them.

I was in this position too - my car has a complete PCM Motorport division service history for all of it's 118,000kms when I got it, but there's no way I'll take a Porsche (or any other car for that matter) to our Tassie Porsche Dealer, so I'm sticking with my tried, proven and trusted mechanic who has a good history with Porsches stretching back a number of years, and whose expertise is acknowledged in our community (and also worked with Dutton Motorsport - he rebuilt the wiring loom in their 962), and has sufficient connections within mainland Porsche Centres to get any info he needs

I agree.  A service history is just that.  If someone good does it, that’s enough.  Has to be a Porsche specialist though.  I’ve also seen some pretty low rent work from some factory shops.  I get all of mine done at an independent other than the spanker - but that’s because it’s on a plan.

PCM has a “Motorsport” division??

I’d trust Karl and Brian but I’d never use a dealer otherwise. Frankly my attitude now is if it has mainly dealer stamps, the need for a PPI goes up.

Is that Karl and Brian from PCM Classic?

@Skidmarks yes there is a Motorsport division. Speak to Paul Girt at PC Melbourne. I  spoke to him today about the availability of a Manthey K400 kit for my GT3 today as they are the agents for Manthey in Australia. He'd been busy reading up on 992 GT3 Cup equipment for 2022 today when I rang.

Yes, I’ve known Paul for a long time.  PCM are selling motorsport bits that’s for sure but I don’t think they “do” motorsport.

PCM (Brian Hammond) rebuilt the engine in my 996 cup back in 2005. I believe Karl B did engine builds also. They do seem to have some sort of Motorsport division and I’ve even seen them market themselves as Porsche Motorsport Australia in certain circumstances.

That’s an interesting notion...I don’t disagree with you! Nothing against PC Adl but when I called today for them to quote a service I got the feeling the girl on the other end simply plugged 996 into a computer and read whatever came up on her screen, with no idea as to how it might apply to my particular car. Appears to be a one size fits all type of situation. It would be nice to have the stamp but we have access to more than one good independent in Adelaide so it seems a bit pointless going down any other route with a car that is long since exited its warranty period. I was just curious as to how others view these things.

Motorsport Div

When I purchased a 996 last year, I arranged a PPI via PCM.

Brian Hammond Inspected the car for me, and the paperwork provided had Porsche Classic Department.

(maybe it is dependant on the model?)

Think 996's are considered "classics" now so all work on them is done by the classics dept.  They do great work from my experience.

Porsche now offers "Classic Pricing" but unfortunately not all stealerships have a Classic Service Department (technician) - I think it's just Willoughby and Melbourne?  I'm hoping the new Newcastle dealership may offer it.

Would be interested to hear what you find out about this....
