Lots of dogs are apparently for sale but no one will get back to us. i think most of them are scams or old adverts and when you chase them up they don't respond. My wife is after a mostly non shedding type like Ted above here, i also don't want to spend a lot of money on a dog, i know most dogs cost a bomb these days, unfortunately gone are the days when you could pick up a dog on just about every street corner. We want something smallish but still walk-able and with at least half a brain, mini Schnauzer is high on the list but also a high price. Any points in the right direction will be much appreciated if anyone knows of anything. Have a look at rescue dogs, may just find something. There are 3 pups down the road. About 3 weeks old. Mum is a wire haired something with a staffi head. Good natured. Dad, I wouldn’t have a clue, but I can ask. May be a little taller than you want. I will take some pics if you are interested. TINGY Posted 21April, 2020 Report Share Posted 21April, 2020 Thanks Brian but not really looking at Staffi related dogs, we had a chance to get an Ultimate Mastiff like our sons or a German Shepard but i am no longer into big dogs. I want a small dog if we follow through on this, i really don't think i am going to have much say in this though. Mel has looked at everything in the past few weeks and it seems because of lockdown everyone wants a dog.

Pressure was already on in our place, but judging by the PowerPoint presentation (I’m not kidding) our 8yr old put together and made me watch two nights ago, seems like lockdown has ramped up the idea here!!!! It will be a golden retriever for us, apparently we’re already in touch with a breeder... The things I learn now that I’m working from home, I tell ya... 😂 TINGY

Aussie Terrier maybe a consideration? Bloody good guard dogs (can hear a pin drop from 4 kms away) and train well from personal experience. Or maybe a Cavoodle? Cross between a King Charles Cavalier and poodle. Very smart and friendly dogs I believe. Probably our next family member https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-samsung&source=android-browser&q=cavoodle TINGY

SteveF Posted 21April, 2020 Report Share Posted 21April, 2020 +1 on the Cavoodle Tingy They are a fantastic dog. Don't leave their hair everywhere. Very friendly and a lovely nature. We have had ours for about 4 years and he is great. If you want info on a breeder let me know. TINGY
OZ930 Posted 21April, 2020 Report Share Posted 21April, 2020 Yep, Maltese Shihtzu. Great dogs. They take me for a walk every morning, whether I want to go or not.. In the afternoon they take me for a drive. These brats were supposed to be the wife’s dogs, but..... LeeM and TINGY

We have had two (Wilson and Potsie ) and I swore never again the hair was insane . I have just been in the same situation my 8 year old and 13 year old presented us with a contract to get a dog it was hard to say no to . We just picked up this week our new family member Winnie . TINGY Posted 21April, 2020 Report Share Posted 21April, 2020 I love all doggies as well but we will definitely be going for a non shedding dog. We have both said we don't miss the fur of our last 2 dogs, we have had pure breed rough coat Jack Russell's, beautiful dogs and very intelligent but difficult to train with a one track mind, hunting, anything that moves these things were on to and can sniff out a rat or mouse from a thousand feet i reckon. I think Cavoodle or Schnauzer is high on the list. I wanted to wait until we stopped working but my wife couldn't wait that long.
Stephen Tinker Posted 21April, 2020 Report Share Posted 21April, 2020 We are on our second mini Schnauzer - our first (Max) died November 2018 with cancer. I said no more dogs - too painful 'cos they are part of the family. But, we (me) started looking soon after Christmas 2018 and found a Schnauzer breeder about 100km away, went to look at the litter and ordered another male pup the same day... Scruffy Sam (black & silver) arrived a year ago and is a mirror image of our first mini - and my wife loves the fact that there's no shedding 😍 TINGY

The Schnauzer does sound like a good dog breed, there are a few in our suburb. How cute is this. firstone
Coastr Posted 22April, 2020 Report Share Posted 22April, 2020 My dog was recently diagnosed with a metastized cancer - basically sweat gland tumors - now in his lungs. Vet has predicted 10-12 weeks. Poor bugger is going nuts wanting to scratch at his rear end but has to wear a bucket when he can’t be watched closely. The tumors on the outside are pretty ugly things and obviously irritate when the drugs are wearing off. He is 12 1/2 but still full of life. Rough times ahead. Stephen Tinker Posted 22April, 2020 Report Share Posted 22April, 2020 I feel for you - watching a mate die is not a pretty sight. Our vet looked at me and said "Don't worry about it - I've seen many owners in tears before - most are men too". It was a big decision, but when we saw the scans and the cancerous lump was a big as the heart, we made the decision there and then. He's buried in the garden under his favourite tree.... Niko Posted 22April, 2020 Report Share Posted 22April, 2020 Meet Mischca. Best dog I have ever owned.......Last dog I will ever own. One of the worst days of my life when I had to finally put her down. Holding her paw and watching her eyes cloud over as she looked up at me and drifted off.... LeeM Posted 22April, 2020 Report Share Posted 22April, 2020 Geez guys, I'm fkn tearing up here reading your stories! 😥 Our Maltese Shihtzu (Roxy) is 13 and slowing down a fair bit with athritis and other ailments. On some drugs that keep us poor (if it was that bad we would do the right thing), yet I've advised work they won't see me for a week when she leaves us. It'll tear me apart Niko

LeeM Posted 22April, 2020 Report Share Posted 22April, 2020 What a beautiful pair of Westies @WGA Love seeing people take their best mates everywhere 👍 Ours (Maltese Shihtzu) wasn't socialised when she was younger (before me and the missus got together), so she was an aggressive little cow towards anyone (even I copped it sometimes), though I'd had enough and got a dog whisperer in (sounds weird but they're brilliant...and expensive!), and within 10 minutes she was a completely different dog. Ofcourse I got the blame for that allowing her to run the house (fair enough too), and we've never had a problem since firstone

I bet she’ll be the best mate ever for giving her a second chance why people dump or abuse dogs and animals makes me sick. We’ve adopted 5 boxer dogs over the past 20+ years and have loved them all and been awesome mates. Good on you for adopting her well done. Our latest came to us at six months when she somehow sustained a broken femoral head in the hands of the first owner who did not want to stump up the $5,000+ for the operation and put the effort into the months of necessary rehabilitation. She was such wonderful little thing that we took her home in a heart beat. Got the operation done (they cut off the femoral head so the bone now just floats in muscle and hence the months of rehabilitation for the muscle to build up around the bone in compensation and the dog to learn to walk again) and nursed her back to full recovery. She is now my absolute best mate. But ever since, she hates children. She will not go near them and runs away scared. We suspect that she was kicked or dropped by a child of the previous owner. clutch-monkey, firstone and LeeM 2
