996 GT3 Purchase

Any economic speculation immediately leads to an over analysis mainly consisting of serval factors and variables nobody knows the answer to or has any control over. It all makes it a pointless exercise really. Nobody knows what the future holds, especially in the current climate.

What we do know is everything has it's price and this is mostly guided/driven by subjective and non-rational logic (although people do try to spin it otherwise). Old mate has his 996 GT3 for sale and he is trying to sell it for as much money as he/she can. No need to be surprised, nobody seems to bat an eyelid when a bog stock 3.2 Carrera sells for circa 200k..................Hell, if you are in the market for a tired 964 or 993 you need to budget that + all the stuff that needs doing to it.

I think people are starting to join the dots and a collectable & usable Porsche GT car that was produced in limited numbers and has a drive/feel that has been defined as one of the definitive high character 911's for AC drug money starts to make sense. I'd say there are more people out there buying 996 GT3's to drive than early AC cars - if you want a 'driver' it's an absolute no brainer.

You are on the CTS payroll now arent you ..   we agree on  a few things , driving them ..and variables and the price of splitters ...  Or you just got that favourite FUEL cap on and plumping the market anyways.   You too .. get that car out for thrash , if I had one , i would be driving it this arvo , even if it was in 5Km laps of the house

At the price point, I really think they're compelling, I still think the 996 GT3 is too cheap for what it is... you might all laugh at me now, but in years to come we will look back and say that guy was right..

Special cars with pedigree at the end of the day... and my pick for the long term hold is the 6.1

Boags. .. I guess its all a foregone outcome really .. beer expensive or otherwise , occasionally fine food and wine  .. get  drunk .. claim the worlds gone mad even . We have these circular discussions if you look back in the history of the forum just the numbers change .. the model numbers and the prices we discuss 😀.  Is that car of your warmed up yet to be taken out for its afternoon thrash

Boags, brewed about 5 kms from where I'm sitting 🙂  Not a huge fan ,apart from their St George which is a mighty fine drop.  GT3 not warmed up this afternoon, but will be in the morning for a trip to my mechanic to put a couple more screws in the nose cone to sort out an errant underpanel, and finish of a couple of small things from the clutch change.  Already for a drive with some mates on Sunday for a GT bash - couple of 6GT3s, a 1.1RS and possibly a couple more.  Gotta love Tassie's Covid free status 🙂

Unfortunately I have nothing of value to add to the beer discussion......................no idea what Kool aid is either?

I don’t have an issue with the car going to a specialist independent, but they could have stamped the book and provided an invoice. Post-it note stapled into a service book is taking the piss.

@symsy

German Sports Cars = specialist independent - now THATS a stretch!

I think if that price is achieved,  you will also be quite crazy and if your not a gambling fan to say that this fake money world bull market is gonna stop its charge...

But as previously discussed - more sense than a g-Body @$ 200K? Certainly a Better Drive..... even if the "g" was NEW...

Australia doesnt seem to have any long term economic strategy , its people have a long term indoctrination into realestate and that markets booming and is a good source of play money.

Just realising this now??

When that runs out of steam the cars , water cooled or otherwise will overheat.

Other bullshit like NFT /Crypto etc has also created many play money multi millionaires

The issue is Money has no "value" anymore - just stay at home and collect your $$$

We have muppets as pollies and they seem to be gaining more and more power.. I guess it will all end in tears , tyranny or maybe a revolution.

LOL - we get the politicians WE deserve....

I can take that Red beast of yours off your hands If you want to get an NA car ;) but maybe like me your addicted to boost ..

Nah - Im knee deep in it now!

I look at myself in the mirror and say, UK import,  from the street, hated snobbery in the UK and hate it here 😀 .

I like to not say that and maybe I got a few flaws and scratches . Maybe even a little rust in my brain  and then I take me out for a real world blast beyond the forum and life feels better driving and I am the RS..  After all isnt the perception and personal experiences that defines what something worth.. ?  Skids = smiling  no matter what car you drive.

Yes I do reflect that I am  A- "RS" -E .  I guess most importantly Im trying to have fun.

I go into the garage for a few and miss these gems!!!

Good idea... fuck the investment potential, that is a beautiful car I'd like to own, drive and track the shit out of, especially at that $$

Best line yet!

Would have to be a record ask for a 996 GT3 other than Rusty French’s car!

It was only earlier this year that I was having discussions with another member about wether he should or shouldn’t drop 300k on an RS….

guess he made the right decision 😎

So in light of current asking on 996 GT3, where would we think the market is at on 996 RS? I haven’t seen any trade lately or been close to a transaction in over 1 year… historically, they have been around 2 x GT3 price… except for last year, the gap was $100k~ give or take

I suspect you, Luzzo & Hugh to say the least are all wondering this same thing 🙂

A red on white one with 60ish K kms sold for $355K 4-5 months ago. I had some dialogue with the seller at the time. It was advertised on carsales with very poor photos. It was the one that was a “very  REAR opportunity”. It would undoubtedly be more now.

Yes, definitely well before the current market increase.

Just to add for context, that 996RS was also originally UK delivered before arriving here (as a personal import).

(not intended to start any Import vs Aus delivered debate).

Yup know the one… wasnt sure if it ever sold since he kept taking it down and putting it back up again with all different prices

When it comes to RS of anything 996 and earlier then, I really feel the delivery status is less relevant anyway, since it’s slim pickings.. especially for 964’s

anywhow, I think the data suggests there is still a small premium for Aussie delivered cars, so anecdotal we’d be looking north of $400k for RS?

it’s nothing to do with selling, as I have no interest but insurance will need to be reviewed shortly… I’m interested to see how we all good getting an increase in cover
