You learn something every day....

My car has Litronics and washers according to the spec sheet (though I have never used them) - are the washers the oval chrome discs mounted on the headlights?

Looking at disco's car, the oval discs are missing.

That's right Stephen.  I must admit to only finding them by accident when I pushed the stalk forward and heard a noise and saw the water spraying up 🙂

Why did you pass on the immaculate .2? Low 60’s with IMS done looks pretty good in today’s market. Was it the 997 itch you had to scratch, imagining a bit more coin for that change up

Yes the 997 itch.... it was a bit more to move up to a 997, if it didn't have the IMS, RMS and Clutch done I probably wouldn't have purchased it.

I haven’t been following the 4S’s that closely but I do like that black one, the only colour for me, each to their own, my opinion has ruffled some feathers recently 🤣. If you have the cash for a local car, I’d be heading that way as it will reward you if selling into the future.

I think a 15% reduction for an import would be about right, so the silver car is priced accordingly.

Do you guys think the black Hamilton c4s is reasonably priced??? Also is their value on their import c4s. Is it worth the 10k extra outlay ??

I think it’s a beautiful car and at around the $80k mark it’s decent buying.

The import C4S looks tidy too, however will suffer on resale as mentioned.

Good luck.

regards,

David.

I get the winnowing that occurs with earlier cars. get, but don’t personally Get bothered with imports , conversions backdated forward dates tributes replicas etc .. heck I’m pining after a certain ‘959’ built on a 72 chassis that had a c3 motor .. thought about converting it to a homage of the factory pre production 959 , which is in the museum... blah blah

but with a newer ‘white goods’ porsche  of any model , aside from ensuring it’s not a mess of corroded bolts underneath and crash damaged etc , ( same for early cars ) , then why the showing of claws , gnashing of  teeth and rolling of terrible  eyes ...

p.s I’m hoping someone gets the sendak reference

I’ll also add, always happy to buy an import cheaper

Pretty slim pickings for any S1/S2 manual 996 coupe IMO, nothing below $55k...........the word is spreading, prices on the up? :o

I have one, get them while you can:D

I think you correct Stepo, prices slowly rising again.......

Shipped down from the UK last year.
3.4 litre
No RWC.
Mechanically the car is in top condition with Porsche Uk service history.
2 keys but central locking needs to be reset.
Some rust on the underside due to UK winters.
115000 mi on odometer.
Original stereo with aftermarket sub in the back.
Pirrelli tyres with less than 500km on the tread.
Garaged since moving to Australia.
Minor rust spot on back passenger side panel.
No compliance plate as has not been registered in Australia yet.
This car is an amazing car. Bought it 5 years ago in the UK but have not the space or time to keep it here anymore.
Would suit somebody who has a bit of time to invest to get it back to mint condition.
Quite a rare model down in Australia it seems due to the 4wd and manual transmission.
My apologies for the messy garage.
Offers over $30000 will be considered.
Located in Melbourne Eastern suburbs.

I shudder at what the underside / brake lines / exhaust and suspension looks like after 115,000 miles and 20 years of British winters

He wouldn't get 5,000 pounds for it "back 'ome"....

I suspect a little bit of rust is like being a little bit pregnant........

A very good rule of thumb is if you can see a little bit of rust, it is just the tip of the iceberg...

People in UK / USA  buy the 4WD version so they can drive & not get caught in the snow; which = salt and slush = mega corrosion compared to here.

Facebook is the perfect site for selling this 911 (or trying to sell!).

The extra for the Aus delivered is about right.  From the pics it appears to be in better condition too.  What I find amusing though is that for an extra $5k, you could be the owner of the auto, convertible 964...with ~50k more kms.  Looking at them side by side makes the black C4S look like an absolute bargain.

Irrespective of AWD, they still salt the roads regardless..  Unless your going cross country, there really isn't any way to avoid crusty, salty under-bodies.

Maybe I miss your point..

I think he meant that being AWD it is more likely to be used in winter rather than garages away from the salt roads and brought out in the summer months

Hey guys, thought I'd let you know that I've decided to move the X51 onto a new custodian.

I LOVE the car, but I've had an ill wife and 2 kids since I purchased it in Oct 2017, and I just haven't been able to drive it as much as I wanted to.

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/porsche-911-1999/sse-ad-6745821/

Maybe this sets a price for 996.1 C2 M X51's or maybe I'm crazy, either way happy to negotiate for PFA members only 😉

Reach out if you're keen for a chat or want to see the maintenance records.

Cheers,

Al

With a recent rebuild, this might be a reliable buy if you were after a tip: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1999-Porsche-911-Carrera-996-Auto/SSE-AD-6749900

This engine has been rebuilt from the bottom up with a new IMS kit. During its rebuild the entire engine was chemically cleaned and rebuilt by a 996 specialist at a cost over 20k (all receipts available and you can see the image of engine on this page). The new engine has only travelled 1700km, having just been worn in, so far (Odometer is at 155k).
