I don’t particularly have an issue with it but it could easily be missed by a buyer. But at that level any buyer would surely request PPI so unlikely to be duped. edgy Posted 2January, 2020 Report Share Posted 2January, 2020 Thanks for the update @DJM What he needs to understand is that no wholesaler or dealer is going to touch it, because you cannot finance WOVR cars, a lot of buyers would still opt for that I’d imagine? And as I mentioned a few posts back, I know where wholesale was at on good history cars in recent times and it’s early to mid 100k, that’s what dealers are willing to pay! So whilst you’re probably the right buyer for the car, unfortunately what we appear to have is unrealistic price expectations from the seller! it could be a good car under all that, but the lack of supporting documentation for its ‘incident’ is always going to be a hindrance... it’ll be less of an issue in 20 years, but I don’t think you’d own it 2 based on the laws of averages Doug 😂

Probably in 2025 when 991 GT3s plummet in value after expiry of the 10 year engine warranty. Buy cheap and budget for a new 991.2 engine when it goes bang (wrong thread for that discussion!) the test is can I wait 5 years especially after GT3 Spa drive and RS hot laps in 4 months from now 😬😬 hugh, edgy and Troubleshooter 2
spiller Posted 2January, 2020 Report Share Posted 2January, 2020 It doesn’t take much to bend them, and equally so, they can be put right and *most* would never know. Any half decent body shop would be able to give a good indication as to what it’s had done and how good the work is. Personally I’d have no issue with owning something like this, if the price was right.

Give me cheap over pristine The thing is all it needs is the correct wheels, some 2nd hand lights and maybe re trim the seats and you’d blend in with every other 997 CS. Then you can still track the crap out of it without guilt and look good in the process! Provided it’s been repaired properly, having your VIN on a “list” is a small price to pay for potentially very cheap entry fee. There is $20k worth of seats in there on a good day... unfortunately that day turned orange at some point! 12 minutes ago, DJM said: Yep that’s me, I’m a driver not a polisher so a perfect car is wasted on me. My arse doesn’t fit in those seats so I’d swap in some other seats, repaint the cage and wheels and that’d be enough to start with. Oh and toss the subwoofer. Retrim the seats and worry about factory wheels and lights at some stage for future resale. but at 145k he’s dreamin’ so it’s all a moot discussion...for now 🤔

Seller says it apparently hit a barrier on track in 2007 (previous owner) when it was a month old. He says he carefully inspected and found no damage to chassis but he has no details. Appears to have been cosmetic only but still suss on why it had interior out, new lights, retrim etc as you highlighted. He is happy to submit it to PPI at a PC which is encouraging. He says it’s a factory Clubsport, factory seats & cage and has the extinguisher but not the original wheels. Reckons mechanically perfect, no over revs etc. I asked for VIN number, not provided..... Notwithstanding all that he is firm on price so it’s not for me. I was really just looking for a $120k GT3 to track hard 😀 Knowing finicky Porsche buyers who want super original, pristine, full history cars ....or no sale, my guess is it will languish on market for a while yet. I don’t think the price delta is adequate to cover the patchy history, mods, WOVR etc no matter how “good” he thinks the car is otherwise. Sad but true. Suspect he'll be standing firm for a while then..... My thoughts re WOVR. if the car was only a few months old when it hit the barrier, then given the value of the car when new, it must have been a huge hit and hugely expensive to repair if it was written off, whereas, I could see a much more moderately damage car that is, say 10 years old, being written becuase of the cost to repair vs value. So, there could be two similar cars on the WOVR, and depending when the damage was, one could have been far less damaged than the other..... A LOT of cosmetic non structural damage to write off a $300k car!

I always thought that was one area my 997 didn’t live up to my 996 (996 had full leather, 997 doesn’t) that’s nearly half the money of a current 991.2 touring... My point is I have BOUGHT 5 cars sight unseen from interstate when there was a genuine, willing seller at a price I was happy with. So NO SALE!I Thought that was worth sharing. Having said that, my old man was Scottish so have a penchant for a bargain, not a crime last time I checked 🤔 As to “talking down the value of GT cars of late”......umm what? Last time I checked we’re in a General Marketplace and Values Discussion thread and I have posted little “of late”. If you scroll back, quite a few others chimed in saying it was well over priced. I’m the bunny who had a dip at it and fed back to the brains trust. At the right price I would buy it. FWIW if that thing sells north of 120k I’ll go he. meanwhile I have a track car, I’d like a GT3 for road and track, I follow the values discussion, I wax and wane on which one I want, I have a dip from time to time when something takes my fancy. But no rush, it’ll happen one day. Meanwhile I’ll be worrying about Iranian antics and bushfires.
