Twice the price of a later longhood but doesn’t drive as well? Collectors only need apply. But then non original color or engine - not that collectible. So I’m back to not understanding. However I bet someone is excited by the prospect of a 65 so I hope it finds a happy new owner. To say the early cars don't drive as well is not correct, IMO. I have owned Porsche cars from 968 and 914, up to Carrera 3.0 , 930 and GT2 OBRUT and micknine01
hugh Posted 7January, 2020 Report Share Posted 7January, 2020 There is a very good reason why early, narrow body, short wheel base 911’s are so highly regarded. Hard to find a car that will make you smile that much while driving. micknine01, LeeM and OBRUT
Troubleshooter Posted 7January, 2020 Report Share Posted 7January, 2020 Just a little chuckle for the day. The dude runs this ad on Scumtree with a price of $20,000 .... it's a $30,000 car he's after. Check out the last line of his ad, bet he doesn't get a call. Hi I am after a Porsche Boxster 987,S manual in:*Black, navy, red, white (order of pref)*meaning from 2005 or later;*less than 100,000 on the clock;*must have full service history and books;*never been in an accident;* registered and roadworthy;*garage queen and non smokers car preferred.I’m in SE Qld, however, Will travel anywhere for the right car.As far as price: I am negotiable, however following red book values as a guide, more on the trade side to private sale.No high priced cars please, I’m not that rich and can be a bastard if provoked. firstone and MFX

edgy Posted 8January, 2020 Report Share Posted 8January, 2020 I can honestly say he won't get a good 986 Boxster S for that money either... probably not even a base car with all preventative works done.

Disclaimer: I have a 65 and also race a 69 2.0 litre. Ok I can understand that. I forgot about historics. I remember reading how expensive the early cases are because of the demand for historic racing categories. OBRUT
White_996 Posted 9January, 2020 Report Share Posted 9January, 2020 https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1976-porsche-911-s-manual/SSE-AD-6398894/?Cr=0 Hi. I'm interested to know from the knowledge base if rear bumpers are correct on this car. Did the 1976 911S have these bigger style? Thanks, Vin
3legs Posted 9January, 2020 Report Share Posted 9January, 2020 It would appear from first glance that it's an American import therefore converted. Large rear bumpers and speedo in miles (although speedo is in kmh ?) and info sheet shows a California car which suggest that it is an import. Hopefully more knowledgeable people will be able to assist. Troubleshooter, tomo and KeyboardWarrior77
LeeM Posted 9January, 2020 Report Share Posted 9January, 2020 Looks bloody good to me! @3legs is correct. Massive rear overriders are a dead giveaway that it's an American import and converted. I'm not going to say it's expensive if you want a car to drive and enjoy (as opposed to one who thinks about Aussie delivered and future values), yet I'd be haggling a bit in this economy. Dare I say $65ish would be around the mark if the car checks out ok. 3legs and White_996
White_996 Posted 9January, 2020 Report Share Posted 9January, 2020 Thanks Lee I haven't followed the market over the past 12 mths but I'm back looking. Are you suggesting the market has softened over the past year? Out of interest, what would be your dream P car? Vin

Thanks, Vin Just for future information, one of the most effective ways to tell a US import are the wipers ... The bumpers can and do get changed, as do the front blinkers and the speedo's. Most people don't change the wipers as it's expensive and painful ... if they are resting on the passengers side, it was originally a LHD ... if they are resting on the right hand side it was built as a RHD ... This is not always 100% given but most of the time holds right ... Raven and KeyboardWarrior77

These mirrors look like they are from an early '70s Ford, either Falcon, Cortina or Escort. Air vent grill panel is missing, The U.S blinkers have been painted over, instead of having the rubber strip, Are those sill panels bent, just in front of the rear wheels, on both sides? Just my observations. Might help with negotiations. KeyboardWarrior77
